god, this "jerry couldn't pass on dez bryant like he passed on randy moss" line is such annoying tripe.

dallas picked 8th overall in 1998. moss went 21st. that makes 19 other teams that passed on moss besides dallas -- more teams after us than before us -- and one of them, tennessee, actually took a wide receiver (kevin dyson!).

the patriots had two picks in that round, one in the slot right behind minnesota and the other two slots ahead of the vikings, but they didn't risk taking moss. why is that history not repeated ad nauseum?

I think Jerry had actually told Moss that he would be their guy if he was available but he was scared off at the last minute. As far as I know, no other team was as closely linked to Moss as we were and that's why it was always a big deal when he killed us on the field. Hearing the same thing over and over does get old, but there's some validity to the comparison.

Dallas was linked more to Moss than others. I wouldn't be surprised if some teams lament not taking him as well.

enough already with the "enough already" threads

Like 4 people drew that comparison and since then we've had 6000000 threads crying about it

That guy early in his career would've got us past a lot of losing seasons.

Probably would've turned who ever was the QB into something respectable too.

Probably for the best that we didn't, since we could be sitting here with a respectable Hutch hoping for a 8-8 season

True problem was the year Moss was drafted we were dealing with the Irvin arrest the tunie death, the white house situation. Jerry claming he would clean things up so to turn around and get Moss after claming this had to end would have shown we had no interest in cleaning up this team

Yeah definetely at the time. Im glad we didnt draft Moss. Can't stand him.

But on his best day he is the best receiver that ever played the game.

Yeah, really you just needed a QB who could throw deep and you could win games with Moss. Definitely one of the most dominating players to ever line up at WR.

One comparison between Bryant and Moss that gets overlooked is their football intelligence. All reports have Bryant being a super quick study when it comes to learning the game and that kind of mirrors the reports from Brady and Belichick that Moss is one of the smartest players they've ever been around.

I hope. He is going to get lost in our offense. Teams have to prepare for to many things as it is.

If Felix explodes next year and we get a great playaction game its over... If we can get the opposing front 7 blocked

I don't know about all that, I am just glad we drafted him, kind of makes up for skipping on Moss.

i'm not crying about missing on moss, i'm annoyed that so many writers keep recycling the same sorry old story about him rather than telling us something interesting about dez bryant. i'd like to see a little more effort on the writers' part.

Dallas was linked to Moss because they needed a receiver more than any team in that round. Every team passed up Clausen in this draft but not every team needed him which is why he fell to the 2nd round.

Bryan Broaddus explained a few days ago that Jerry backed off getting Moss because his head coach Chan Gailey and wr coach Dwain Painter told him they didn't want him.

Exactly. Jerry should have never hired Gailey in the first place. He was a decent at Xs and Os but horrible as a talent evaluator. Gailey told Jerry that Gailey's system didn't need a top WR. Stupid advice which unfortunately Jerry took.
