Perhaps it is "enough" with the negativity if we can also stop with the It's justs.

It's just one game against Minnesota.

It's just preseason.

It's just that the team is tired.

It's just the first game of the season.

It's just a rivalry game at night.

The harsh reality is the starting offense has not played a in some while now, and the they truly are a good offense, they need to overcome whatever extenuating circumstances are facing them and play well enough to win, like other good offenses in the league.

Would it kill some people to acknowledge a possible problem here? Such as an admission doesn't mean the problem can't be repaired, only that it's there.

Yes that gets old as well.

Remember, it's only preseason...er, wait a minute, I mean, it's only one game.

First I will admit that i only read the first page of this thread and the last 2 pages.....

However, this place has gotten really bad lately. I have been coming around here for many years now and it seems like its at an all time low.
I viewed the board a few times yesterday just to see if any new articles were posted and all i could see was negative spamming. I know some people get upset over calling them spammers. But how many threads can a person type or even how many negative responses can a person type before they wake up and realize they have a problem?

It seems like we have a few very active members on this board that just cannot grasp with this is really all about.

So I will give a little lecture on football and fandom.....

We are not on the cowboys. We are fans. We all want our team to win. The cowboys players, coaches and management do not post or read this. They have other things to do. As much as you many want your spamming whine to actually make a difference it will not. You may think you know whats wrong with the cowboys and how to fix it but you really do not know anything. You have your opinions, we all do. And they are all different from each others. But the Cowboys are not your life. They are not feeding your family. They are an enjoyable escape from the stress and reality of having to feed your family. Learn to find some emotional balance in your life. Getting so angry over the outcome of a football game that you are not even playing in only makes you look foolish. Sure cheer, discus football, buy merchandise, go to the games, but take it for what it really is. Its sports entertainment. Control your emotions. If the cowboys win this week your life should not be better or worse than if they lost. It has nothing to do with you. The cowboys are trying to win every game. And we all want them to. But to let the failures of another get you so upset that you are calling them names only reflects on the sad state of your life. You are on a dangerous path of unhealthy obsession. Before long the victories wont even taste as good because you will only thing about he negatives.

Enjoy your family. Enjoy your friends. Play with your kids. Take your dog for a walk. Do something to help your financial situation. Watch the cowboys and learn to enjoy it. Finding the right balance will make you a happier person.

[devilsadvocate]What if some of us already subscribe to many of those theories but still feel the need to vet a loss for a couple of days afterward (assuming the vetting remains within reason)?[/devilsadvocate] Would that be ok by you?

I like you Bleu Star. Venting is great. Especially to other cowboys fans. Because we love to talk about our team and talking makes up feel better about he loss. I think everyone likes venting. But its the over the top emotional reactions that can really drag a place down. Everyone has gotten negative at times after a tough loss. This message board should be the place where we come to read others opinions and kind of cheer each other up. Not a place where we have a few over the top posters come to over power the threads with sarcastic negativity.

The arguing back and forth is even enjoyable within certain levels. I think we all know that some posters have a certain image for certain things. Its funny. We enjoy it.

Some people think they are bigger fans or more passionate about the team because they post more or are more clever with their comebacks. I know the entire day before the cowboys play I am nervous. I probably have to take a leak about 10 times in the first half of each game alone. I know TMI but i dont miss a snap. I am as passionate about my team as anyone i know. People who know me all know i am the cowboys fan. And I need to vent sometimes.

But it become bad when it seems like some people carry this negativity around all week. They come on here and spam negativity on every thread they can. Thats the over the top emotional reaction that i am talking about. The unhealthy obsession.

But hey i know we are all guilty of over reacting at times. And when i do i actually laugh when someone steps in and sets me straight.

The important part is that we are all fans or we wouldnt be here posting. Lets not let the over the top negativity take away what football and the cowboys really are...Entertainment.

I am completely on the same page with you. I'm not a fan of those that spam negativity all week either and guess I have somehow acquired a skill of blocking that out. I normally ignore those threads and proceed to the ones I consider worthy of a response. Occasionally my curiosity will get the best of me and I will enter against my better judgment but, for the most part, I stay away from it. I know that element is here and I don't deny having fed into it years ago. I don't support that at all today. My belief lies in the fact that a good percentage of posters just want to be able to vent a little to each other for a few days. The element of negativity is a relatively small percentage on the board. Unfortunately, they sometimes sound their horns the loudest. As someone else has already said today, it's Wednesday and that means it's officially time to get it in gear for the Bears. I actually needed that and it helped to push the Skins game a little further into the past. So, don't get me wrong. I know exactly what you're referring to and I don't support that element.

It is Wednesday and the stupidity in this place continues. Yes, we're all upset we lost, but move on. Did you expect us to go undefeated? I think not. Losses happen. It was not our night on Sunday. Deal with it.

Enough with the name calling and clever insulting nicknames that have been made up for our coaches.

Enough with the "we're done" crap.

Enough with calling for coaches' heads. (Calling for Alex Barron's is acceptable.)

Enough with thinking anything we say or do will convince Jerry he needs to trade our future away for a guard or tackle or ball boy, or fire Wade after one game or replace Jason Garrett.

I've seen more stupid threads made by people I have never seen before this week than ever before.

Need I remind you that this same coaching staff took the Cowboys to 11-5 last year? And our first playoff win in how ever many years it was?

Have a little faith.

Stop acting like a bunch of eagles with their heads cut off. You're embarrassing us with the idiocy. Love and defend the star. Move on. Enjoy the upcoming days to the Bears game. If you can't do that and continue with the stupid threads, please leave.

We don't mind criticism, just do it with some common sense. We're not Commanders fans.

:thankyou:

I almost addressed that very thing in my post, but I will now.

If all you care about is winning the Super Bowl and anything else is a failure, you might as well log off right now and find another hobby. There's probably a 20% chance *at best* that we win the Superbowl. Anyone with any sense of, yes, realism knows that. So the odds are stacked against it happening in any one year. Why set yourself up like that? Why know that four in five outcomes are going to make you miserable?

Cowboys fans are so spoiled. We were damn lucky to experience all the wins and the championships from the Landry and Jimmy days, but they mean nothing today. Yet some people act like there should be some carryover and they are owed wins. Guess what? We aren't.

Some people like me with "low standards" want to make the playoffs, get in the tournament (as Parcells said) and see what happens. If it does happen, it will be a lot of fun along the way. That's no less a reasonable outlook than the "Superbowl or cry like a *****" crowd. Actually, it's a lot more reasonable.
Superb post, CL, but I do disagree on one point. As fans, we are "owed" wins. Likewise, as fans, we do not "deserve" the losses. Wins feed fanaticism and losses enrage and depresses it as well, but this is where true realism (which you have accurately touched upon) either rears its head or rams its cranium up nonsense's rear.

At some point, realism must (or should) adhere to what can or cannot be affected by incessantly howling at the moon. The one question which should arise within anyone's mind is, "What does my negativity accomplish in the real world?" Certainly, it relieves stress. However, if someone claims that it can or could effect anything (literally) else, reality is sidestepped for fantasy.

No one outside the team itself has any real, tangible influence on how well the team will perform. Those who truly understand this basic truth find enjoyment where others only see red. In essense, some can deal with stress a hell of a lot better than others.

Excuse my rant. Again, great post.

After the Vikings failure, I think most if not all Cowboy fans agreed there were key issues with this football team...

a) Offensive line
b) Ridiculous amount of penalties and mental mistakes.
c) Poor offense scoring/yardage efficiency
d) Kicker
e) A good defense that doesn't make enough turnovers or big plays to be considered elite.

After Week 1 we saw the following critical issues appear....

a) Offensive line
b) Ridiculous amount of penalties and mental mistakes.
c) Poor offense scoring/yard efficiency
d) Kicker
e) A good defense that doesn't make enough turnovers or big plays to be considered elite.

So, yeah, people are upset and disillusioned.

Not because we lost a game, but because we just had 8 months of offseason and none of the key issues of this ball club have been rectified, despite endless sunshine pumping. Even with a 5-11 team people can be optimistic when their arrow is pointed up. Even with a team that's arrow is pointed down a fan can be optimistic knowing the current pain of losing will bring about the necessary changes to right the ship for the longterm. When a team is just a plateau and a flatline, there is not much for a fan to turn to but despair.

You make a good point, but from my angle it's not about what we can achieve in the regular season. It's, where can we go in the post-season? I'm tired of being the regular season champions. The problems this team shows will do nothing but provide us with a swift exit out of the playoffs.
I think this is where some posters who are labeled as negative actually sit in the debate, myself included. Not all of us who question what the hell is going on with this team feel that the answers are to cut Choice, trade for Marcus McNeill, or fire Wade. We are critical because events of last Sunday night should not happen to a team this talented...but they do...again and again.

Fortunately, this team has enough talent to overcome many obstables in the course of the season and will more than likely get their **** together and make a run at the post-season.

However...

Stupid has been the great equalizer for the Cowboys recently. Undisciplined and unthinking talent only gets you so far. What you get away with during the regular season against, say, the Rams will get you an early exit in the playoffs because now you're playing the Packers or the Saints...not the Rams.

Simply put, I think this team makes too many mistakes to be able to run the table in the playoffs.

I was hopeful last year, especially at the end of the season. We saw a focused and determined group of players...some of the best play I've seen in years. So what did I expect to start off this year? After stomping on the guts of Philly? Certainly not what we witnessed at FedEx.

And now here we go again with stupid and undisciplined play which is making it increasingly difficult to not point to the stupidity displayed in Sunday's loss and say "this looks like a trend."

Because it sure looks like one.

Well said.

I agree with CL...but not w/out adding a few things.

The world doesn't owe Cowboy fans anything more than a a decade of .500 ball, or something close to it.

Actually the world doesn't "owe" us anything at all.

However! Jerry Jones as owner of the most lucrative franchise does owe us more than any other owner in the NFL. He has the money to entice the best coaches available, pay for the best scouts, hire the most consultants.

In an uncapped year like this one he has the OBLIGATION to go spend some of the fan's money if in so spending it...we can become a better team.
