Entitlement

There was no football related "entitlement" when Jimmy was here.

There was.. only those who felt " entitled " earned it every year. Jimmah Jenius' philosophy is that if a player produce, he's " entitled " to feel " entitled ". When he does not produce, then the " entitlement " is taken away. He was brutally honest when he said that he never treated every player the same. There's a difference between Michael Irvin falling asleep in a meeting and John Roper falling asleep in a meeting, between Emmitt Smith fumbling the ball and Curvin Richards fumbling the ball.

Having said that, his philosphy would not work today. Back in those days, the Cowboys would cut a player and nothing would happen. Today there are salary cap ramifications that must be taken into consideration first. That's why, although remaining firm in his ways of doing things like Jimmah, Jason Garrett has to be more diplomatic than Jimmah was. He has to have a sales pitch that make players " buy " into what he's trying to do other than " it's either my way or the highway ". Sure, he can cut just about anybody he wants at any given time, but if that player is vital to the team, that decision will not be made rapidly and without a consensus.

I don't support anyone accusing others of not being a fan or to change teams. I don't like that tactic any more than I like people who hate everything about this team.

Glad you feel that way, Hos.

To me, nothing is as damnable as being called a troll by some never do well here.
He don't know the trauma felt during "the catch" or bitterness after the noncatch by jackie smith or the no, Danny, no Danny no game that came to symbolize the disappointing '80s. Or the late-game breakdowns of recent years.

He don't know my plight.

Yet it is too easy to call some a troll, a non-fan or a Skins fan when that is not the case.
In my mind, implying someone is not a true fan should be the death penalty here -- no participation for 6 months and an apology.

That would certainly get rid of a lot of rancor around here.
Fans who are negative, that come with the territory. Just don't question my love of the Cowboys . . . .

The issue is when Cowboys fans take the same approach as opponent fans. Labels are just labels but its one's actions that define you.

That is good news, because it happens all the time simply because I don't always agree with others opinions here. It's annoying, but It's ok and is expected. At the end of the day, it's just an uneducated opinion.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "No one can make you feel inferior, without your consent."

If you're letting it bother you then chances are you feel guilty to a degree.

That is a great quote! I wouldn't say it bothers me.. it can be annoying but I don't care or dwell on it. I feel absolutely zero guilt, but thanks for suggesting that.

The one thing that is often overlooked with respect to Jimmy's approach is that for most of his time with Cowboys, he didn't have to contend with FA like coaches do now. it was a lot easier to strike fear in a player when they new their options were limited. I don't think that approach is as effective today when a player knows they can leave when their contract is up. Also, the amount of money players were being paid was much less and not to mention lower signing bonuses and no salary cap to worry about. Coaches/GM's/owners held all the cards and could dictate a players entire career. That's not the case anymore.

But saying that. Why did Bellichek struggle with the Browns and have a land rush success with the Pat's.
