Epic Broadcasting / TV Personalities

Think about what you have to in order to have even a limited career in broadcasting: looks, charm, smarts, articulate expressiveness. To have a lasting career you also must be charismatic and/or funny.

Consider all the ex-Cowboys from that team that have been or currently are in broadcasting.

Troy Aikman
Michael Irving
Daryl Johnston
Jimmy Johnson
Nate Newton
Deion Sanders
Emmitt Smith
Darren Woodsen

Oh man...memories.

OK...here is one game memory:

Thanksgiving Day, 1995. I had a buddy who had a job for a tech company that helped with Cowboy broadcasting. Zenith Data gave us access badges labelled "Press Access." My friend had very limited responsibilities. We were up in the press booth right at the 50 yard line... able to enjoy all-u-can-consume bar, and see the anchors cover the game. I remember watching Randy Galloway writing his game story. We couldn't sit down the whole time and weren't supposed to bother anyone... we didn't care!

After the game we went down and were able to walk around the old field. I was shocked at how high the crown is at the middle of the field. I was a bit crazy back then and I dared my buddy..."Hey Jim...we have media access...let's go into the locker room. If someone stops us we'll just turn around."

We walked into the locker room and as we were going down the hall Troy Aikman is exiting to go to his SUV...I thought of some dumb question to ask him (about Lorrie Morgan) but wisely bit my lip. We just quietly followed along behind him...not saying anything...Just watching. It was really only for like 90 seconds but it seemed longer...

After that we got a bit nervous and high-tailed it out of there...Nobody did say a thing to us...

Cowboys 24: Chiefs 12.
You forgot to mention Novachek hurdling the KC defensive back enroute to a touchdown.

Haha! Good memory.

And did you know Novacek was quite a hurdler in track, and once pole-vaulted 15-1?

The film of Dak and Zeke before the Packer game on Inside the NFL where they were looking around Lambaeu field reminded me of Emmitt and Mike before the Super Bowl in the Rose Bowl where they were looking around the stadium. The expressions and demeanor told me a lot.

You guys must be so young.
CBS and the 70s Cowboys were epic.
Almost always the late game with Pat Summeral and the lead in for CBS shows like All in the Family or Murder She Wrote.
The Dallas Cowboys played a huge roll in the ratings game for CBS TV.
FYI one of the first Cowboys to jump to sports TV with CBS Don Perkins.

Anybody that grew up in the 80s in Dallas like I did might remember that they used to give away game tickets at places like Brookshires and Tom Thumb and it was no big deal. Can you imagine what a Kroger would look like now if they announced they were doing that? Time to call in the National Guard.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but watching these early games, I like the Cowboys chances moving forward. I'm just looking at the NFC and the Eagles are definitely beatable. That game with the Vikings was unwatchable. 8 turnovers in the game. Lions beat the Commanders. The Falcons are the real deal on offense but can they stop anybody? The Seahawks and the Cardinals play tonight. The Cowboys match up pretty well with the Seahawks. I'm just going by what I've seen and we already know this team is good on the road. Injuries will always play a factor but let's go. I'm ready for the Eagles next week

Sometimes it's all a matter of match-ups isn't it? Rock-Paper-Scissors. That Viking-Philly game was one where Minnesota's achilles heel (protecting quarterback) was the Eagles strength. Two top defenses make for boring games.

The Vikings won't face the same pass rush when they play us. But we should be able to move the ball against them.

There aren't any teams in the NFC that are complete. If we could trade for a top pass-rusher...we could be that team.
