Some of the newer Epiphone electric guitars are pretty nice.
Now still not cheap for an import but doing upgrades on electronics and some other areas. Esp the inspired by gibson models and the newer Widow models. Would LOVE to have a gibson les paul widow but they are crazy expensive.

Love the looks of the widows, except with the epiphone head stock throws me off. The made it the same a gibsons on the inspired by gibsons

In 1979 Strats were $550 and Les Pauls were $750 and most
everything else was made out of old pallet wood and sold by
Sears, Monkey Ward, and various other giant brick and mortars.

Since the mid 90's, modern manufacturing techniques
and offshore manufacturing made great playing guitars
much more affordable than before.

I don’t even play guitar, but I have watched some Amazon cheap-o guitar reviews because the algorithm suggested it. It’s amazing what you can get for $100.

I can attest to that. In 1978, when I started playing, cheap guitars were also cheap in quality. Low-end guitars were just plain awful. Nowadays, you can get a low-cost guitar that's good quality.

I bought a Les Paul Deluxe gold top in 1970 for $315 new. I cannot believe it sells for as much as $6000 today. TBH, many of the modern guitars today are better - and cheaper.

Not counting collector value $315 = approx $2650 today...
