Eric Steinbach OG just Released. Hes a 9 year vet. Any Interest.
 
He was a 'Decastro' back in the day.
 
SOrry if this was asked before,but would we have any interest in him??
 
I'm bringing this thread back to the front page just because I think this guy is worth a second look IF the idea is to give younger guys time to develop. There is certainly reason for concern considering he had to have back surgery at the beginning of the season last year. But the reports I've seen indicate he's expected to make a full recovery and is well on his way. He's also said he wants to play at least 4 more years.

The fact is that he was released because the Browns wanted him to take a paycut to save money after they signed him to a 7-year, $49.5 mil deal four years ago and they couldn't agree on how to re-structure the deal. He has been one of the best Gs in the league since he was drafted out of Iowa with the first pick in the second round back in '03.

Rather than bring in someone like Livings, who most of us never heard of, why not the guy who has proven he can do it on a 3-4 year deal and give those young pups time to develop. If they don't, you can draft replacements in a year or two without losing too much time. And given that he's coming off injury, the asking price shouldn't be too extravagant. Add in that he has the flexibility to play multiple O-line positions, and I think you have to at least do your due diligence. And considering they can get at least some idea about him as a locker room guy from Rob Ryan and Jerome Henderson...

I'd take one Steinbach over both Livings AND Bernadeau. Just sayin'...
 
I honestly do not want the team to ignore older interior linemen without kicking the tires at least. Brian Waters was really good for the Pats last year. We could have used him instead of Holland/Dockery

My point exactly. Prior to his surgery, he missed a total of 3 games in 8 years, and started 124 of the 125 he played in. That's some serious durability, and everything I see about him from the coaching staff talks about his incredible work ethic and flexibility. I think you have to at least check into it.

Younger is not necessarily better. Who wouldn't have loved to have had a 38-year old Jon Kitna instead of Quincy Carter back in the day?

Just sayin'...
 
I'm cool w/ bringing in skilled older linemen. 30 doesn't scare me on the o-line.

We'll never know. But he played appreciably better in New England than the combo did here last year...and stayed healthy as well. He may have struggled more lined up next to Costa. Then again, Costa may have looked much better with a better G lined up next to him.

As I said, we'll never know. But we don't have to wait until next offseason to wonder what-if again.

Just sayin'...
 
This is the guy they should have gotten instead of Leonard Davis a few years back.
