Each team only gets 2-June 1st Designated Cuts. They already used one on Spears. I'm sure they don't want to handcuff themselves in case something happens in the mean time. There is no hurry to deal with Free, hence nothing happening for weeks.

I think the best interest of our football team on a short term and long term basis is Parnell is our starting RT and Free is our 2013 swing tackle at a restructured rate.

We have to think of this decision based on how much we are paying for whatever level of play we are expecting to get.

So if Free is viewed as a backup then he should get a vet backup salary. We shouldn't pay Free twice the going rate because it gives us a slight salary cap advantage in 2014 compared to releasing him outright as a June 1st cut because that is more salary cap space that went to fill the position overall than signing a cheaper but equally capable player. So I think it should be closer to $2M and not $3.5M which is what Clabo who is a better player than him got to start.

Jerry is just overvaluing his garbage as he usually does which is why this team is so overpaid and underperforms so much. The underlying thought is that Jerry will pay them a premium even if they are a below average player. I hope Garrett has put a stop to this. We need to be open to bringing in better and cheaper players and I think the Free situation will tell us if anything has changed.

There isn't a player on this roster that's even remotely close to being in frees position. It is what it is. He's not going anywhere. Winston isn't coming.

Well we didn't try to outbid the Giants for MartyB.

It also sounds like there is some commitment to moving forward on a salary cut for Free if he is to remain on the team but no one knows for how much or if Free will accept or request his release.

I do think he made a mistake tagging Spencer. We'd have been better off letting him go and bidding on Kruger who would have fit the new defense better and is 3 years younger.

It is absolutely essential we get performance for pay and by far the two most overpaid Cowboys are Rat and Free. Austin is 3rd in line. We'll know if we're serious about improving things if we let Spencer go in FA next year, release Free unless he plays for $2M or less, release Austin unless he puts up 1200 yards and shows his burst and remains healthy next year and cut Rat or request a salary cut depending on his play this year.

What we have to get ready for is the next wave of players to re-sign and I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of dead weight on the roster. We'll need to be a bit picky but Tyron, Dez and one or both of the two LBs should be the priority.
