Bob Sturm was going in on him on the radio earlier this week. He said he's a big reason why our 12 personnel run game has been pedestrian (our standards) the last 2 games.

If he has another bad game tonight, we need to find an upgrade asap. I'm concerned he's going to get pushed around tonight.

We're rolling with team guys we have in house. No need bringing guys in mid-season to screw up chemistry. This philosophy has worked so far.

He's right. Escobar has been shaky at best going up against DEs and LBs on the edge. Hanna was rock solid and Swaim was becoming very reliable in that area.

I said the same and said it has taken a major strength down a few notches.

And was then told that the drop off in blocking wasn't noticeable lol

Normally I would agree but having that 2nd TE that can hold up in the blocking game is key. They will probably use a 6th OL more often for now, but you ultimately want a TE out there to at least pose the threat of being a pass catcher.

Ironically the time to draft a tight end high might be coming.

Obviously, the next draft should focus on defense, but you also need to keep this offense humming. A multifacted tight end who can block and catch and replace Witten will probably be more useful than the kind of pass rushers who will be available towards the end of the 1st round. Not saying let's take a tight end at 32 (no jinx), but you have to look at the caliber of player you can get at the positions available. Do you want one of the best tight ends in the draft or an average pass rusher? You have to see what's available.

Never understand why we need 2 really good tight ends. Just play with 1. Your future hall of famer. If Escobar is so bad. So many wasted picks when we had Witten the whole time.

We'll they're wrong. Sturm spent a whole segment on it earlier in the week after watching the tape.

Losing Swaim was bigger than most thought. We need a blocking TE to run the offense the way Linehan wants to run it.
