RVING, Texas – Any two-touchdown day in the NFL is cause for celebration, but Sunday’s effort against the Giants had some special significance for Gavin Escobar.
It’d be easy to miss the connection, since the Cowboys drafted Escobar out of San Diego State. Originally a New York native, though, Escobar grew up rooting for the team he helped beat this past weekend.

With plenty of friends and acquaintances watching back in New York, he said he got plenty of feedback on his 65 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

“I got some texts saying, you know ‘Man, I hate seeing the G-Men lose, but it’s awesome to see you play like that,’” Escobar said. “It’s kind of like people are happy to see me doing well over there, but they hate to see the Giants lose.”

I think if this kid can be patient, he can be Witten's heir apparent. Witten is on a steady decline this kid needs to do what Witten did with Campbell, soak up every damn thing Witten drops.

Most keep saying Witten is in a steady decline. Yes he isn't quick, but quickness never was a part of his game. He still catches everything thrown to him, still a great blocker, still runs great routes. As long as he does that, there isn't much of a decline that I see.

I had that thought during the game as well. I had kinda written Escobar off prior to this year but there came a point in the game last week when I thought "We just might have something here". Here's hoping he can keep it going.

Ya, I'm not seeing it either. The decline is in his stats. I think that has more to do with all the mouths we feed on offense now. We didn't have that luxury before. Which goes to show how much we had to lean on Witten before. He has always come through for us then and still he delivers when given the chance.

Well, now I like Escobar less than I used to. Grew up a Giants fan....yuck.

I kinda feel sorry for the kid...........his parents should be flogged, publicly.

escobar was and is fine....
folks equate chances with ability.... not the case..
the kid is just now getting chances, but he's always been a big target, and shown soft hands.

Expect more opportunities for him and Twill as the season goes along..... probably means a bit less for bees & harris.... but I will take that trade off any day... not because of talent mind you, but because of the area of the field they operate in.

happy that he played well with friends and family watching....

people were saying witten was in decline the early part of the year he broke the alltime record. people always think witten is in decline because he looks slow. but he is always open and catches the ball. he runs great routes which helps open up other stuff and he is a very good blocker. he will be here for a couple more years and he will still be slow but he will still get open and move the chains. escobar will be the next up at the position and i think he will learn alot from one of the best there has ever been at the position

I like Escobar and I do think he can one day take over for Witten. Jason will not play forever and in the meantime Escobar can continue to learn and develop and likely be kept at a reasonable price until he is asked to be #1 TE

Everyone kept trying to write off Tony Gonzalez too and he proved them wrong. I think Witten has some years left in him.

I think he does as well he is under contract until 2018 and will be 36 at that time. Thing is Dallas does not have to wait until he retires to find a TE. Escobar is a FA in 2017, meantime he can continue to mature and learn from one of the best

Witten's like a velcro dartboard. Still a very good blocker too.

The reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

True. Seems the same to me as he always has been.

On the Cowboys post game show, that usually airs around 11:00 PM CST after the game. Brad Sham & Babe Laufenberg interviews several players.
They had Escobar on, talked about his catches, and if he, like many players visualize getting any TD's, of not, not 2...LOL...he said he did, as they had game planned a fade route in the endzone if it came up. But didn't vision 2 of them that way.

Asked him about his development as a blocker, and that Witten's first few yeas he wasn't as good of a blocker as he is now. [Brad Sham asked and made that comment].
Escobar said he is always learning something new, and continues to listen to Jason Witten to learn everything he can.
