News: ESPN: Aaron Rodgers plans to sign with Steelers, sources say

I guess Rodgers has milked his predictable off-season waffling dramatics for long enough finally, getting the maximum numbers of discussions on Get Up and Pat McAfee to satisfy himself?

Meanwhile, talk about a franchise stuck in perpetual mediocrity (familiar) - the post-Big Ben era for the Steelers has been a big nothingburger for what feels like a very long time now.

Pittsburgh will ultimately get what they signed up for and it will be fun to watch from afar....
Probably, and not to sound as if I’m defending the Dallas FO at all, but I hear a lot about ‘investing first round capital in a QB’ around here, which Pit did in Pickett….which is proof that guarantees you nothing.

If Aaron Rodgers was put on a top shelf team with talent everywhere… He might be able to drive the bus.

But this is not the same AR as days gone by where he could carry average players around him. He is a shell of his former self, and his stay in Pittsburgh will definitely not end well.
Unless you are very new school and want a QB with legs...or you think he is injury prone due to his age....

What about a qb with good ball placement, decent arm still and great decision making...makes them barely able to drive a bus?

It's gaslighting...or you overvalue some other trait.

Rodgers has everything but being mobile and youth. What characteristics are you thinking trump his positives? And those positives are elite, hard to find skills.

Genuinely curious

Oh boy.....i've been on here this offseason i've seen people hype up Deebo, Kupp and now Rodgers. All guys who's best years are behind them.

Aaron Rodgers in 2024 is a decent to below-average QB......

Now the narrative is.....the Jets weren't very good......

The whole reason he went there was that they were stacked. They won 7 games before Rodgers got there.....and won 7 games again when he got hurt. They won 5 WITH HIM.

How do you guys not see that he's the problem? They have All Pros all over the field....All Pro level talents....some guys would kill to play with Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson.

Rodgers isn't even accurate anymore. You guys are thining of Aaron 6 years ago. His downfall predates even the Jets. It started with the Packers.

That's because you aren't familiar with football.
Put the Dak love hate debate aside for a min and value wise 60 for dak vs 20 Rodgers at this point in his career is an interesting debate....question I would have is what additional 40 million in players could you put on this team now where the sum of the parts would be greater.

That's the interesting question

Well first off my opinion isn't even about Dak its about as bad as Aaron Rodgers has looked. He was a cancer in GB, cancer in New York Jets to the point players couldn't wait for him to leave.....he's a headache. We have enough issues as it is the last thing I want to wonder is if players are gonna show up or not.

But never mind his cancerous activities on and off the field. He simply isn't good and hasn't been for some time.

Right now i'd rather see what Joe Milton had then Aaron Rodgers. That's how bad its gotten for him.

There's nothing interesting about it. Maybe 2018 Rodgers....

To put things in perspective not even the Browns were desperate enough. This is the Steelers who screwed themselves over by not taking a QB in the draft and got stuck with Mason Rudolph as a option.

Then there's the whole "40 million to play with" argument. You do know the Cowboys don't value free agents...not because they can't afford them. If they had a extra 40 million to play with? They would use it and sign their own guys. They would've brought back Gholston and Jourdan Lewis......probably Rico too.

You guys don't remember now but the Jets were considered a up and coming team the year Sauce and Wilson got ROY. They had such promise as did Salah. Rodgers ruined that whole team and franchise and its embarassing he was allowed to do it.

AR is definitely not in his prime, but if he has the arm strength and a decent OL around him, he can be a dangerous QB. I think the last two full seasons he played had more to do about the team than it did him. Similar to Brady in his last year with the Patriots.

This will be a win/win for the Steelers either way. Their young QB can watch for a season. Their other choice is Mason Rudolph.

It is an interesting question! That's the correct way to look at it too- the salary cap savings buys a lot of talent.

Here's another similar question: Dak or Jaxson Dart and $60M in cap space? Dallas could have literally done the latter.
We've seen a lot of talent leave Dallas in the past 2 off seasons- talent that could have been retained for not too much money. And think of the free agent talent that could have been brought in. That would have actually covered the cost of both Henry and Barkley, and then some!

Don't know what the issues were....could his oline protect? Not how many all pros they might have....how were they as a unit?

I think it was game two last year that showed what Rodgers is capable of still. He threw basically a perfect game. Perfect placement of balls....just a stellar game.

The guy can read a field and sling the rock if pass pro is there and he has decent pieces

He seems done, they will probably heavily focus on the run game to hide his inefficiencies.

Dart hasn't done a thing in NFL.

The rookie contract debate is so played out.

Talking about proven vets, with lots of NFL tape, and comparing their figure vs someone like Daks is more stimulating.

Can't stand the rookie contract talk. It involves the use of absolutes....which is an outright lie. No rookie is guaranteed to come in and do better than a 50M QB just because of the salary difference

Of course not. That's not even the question.

In that example, I'm assuming Dak would be better than Dart in year 1. But would Dak be better than Dart plus all the talent $60M buys? Who knows? We've seen teams like Philly and Houston do quick rebuilds and become competitive very quickly. All while Dallas plays it safe, stuck in the mud of mediocrity.
