Love of wings has turned into millions of dollars for Troy Aikman.

The former Dallas Cowboys great confirmed Friday night that he cashed out an undisclosed stake of shares he owned in Dallas-based Wingstop, which saw its share price rise 61 percent on its first day of trading Friday.

Aikman wouldn't disclose his total ownership in the company but did say it's worth more than what he made in his first four years in the NFL. Aikman made about $6 million in those first four years, as he didn't see the final two years of his rookie contract after signing a bigger deal in 1992.

It's amazing how we see stories like this one, and then others that are the exact opposite; former NFL star declaring bankruptcy, or worse, ending up in prison. I guess it shouldn't surprise me when I see the articles about the guys who squandered millions. I just couldn't imagine being in that financial position and then blowing it. Must be one of the worst feelings in the world.

Good for Troy, and the others like him that don't blow it.

I'm pretty doggone sure Troy's got a pretty good "go" of things for himself. I'm also betting I'd settle for a small percentage of what he's got in the bank, sight unseeen and be grinning from ear to ear for a long, long time. He's a smart cookie and obviously knows enough to make the type of decisions that work out extremely well for him.

Being the number one broadcast team for Fox has to bring in some decent money too, right? Has it ever been revealed what he makes with them?

Michael Irvin was involved with a group years ago that was looking into investing with a young internet entrepreneur. They ended up not being able to work out it with the numbers. The young entrepreneur was Mark Cuban and he was looking for a big investor in broadcast.com.

Roger Staubach is one of the wealthiest ex NFL players if not the wealthiest. I'm sure it set a good example for Troy.

That deal was done after the Cowboys won the first of three Super Bowls in four years.
Yes, he did disclose how much he sold and how much he owns. It's required by law to be included in the SEC filing.

Troy sold 71,940 shares at $17.57, so net proceeds of $1.3 million in the offering. His remaining ownership is 107,910 shares (less than 1% of the company). Assuming a value of $30.59 (the closing price after the first day of trading), his remaining ownership is worth $3.3 million.

He also earned fees as a spokesperson, so that must be what he means when he says it's more than he earned in his first four seasons in the NFL, because his ownership in the company is much less.
