Andre Gurode is not that bad

Back in May, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports wrote a piece on which players were overrated and underrated on each NFL team. On the Cowboys, he placed Andre Gurode as the most overrated player on the team for the 2010 season.

Gurode certainly didn't have his best season. He led all NFL centers in penalties with eight, and it seems his health gave him problems in the passing game.

It's hard sometimes to judge offensive linemen when a game is going on. You're watching the ball or the defense and you just don't know what the line call was. So determining responsibility on pass protection and run blocking is uncertain sometimes...

Here we go again.

One was really expecting clarification of distinction from ESPN before the season even starts churning? :D

WALKER - PHOENIX, AZ: How realistic is the thought that Andre Gurode could move back to guard at some point if the Cowboys found another capable center?

Rob: It could be realistic, but gotta find that center first. Until then it's all moot. Gurode certainly can play guard, but his career didn't take off until he moved back to center in 2005. That's his natural position.

Josh: Maybe, but then you're trying to re-teach Gurode the guard position in just a few weeks before the season starts. The free agent center class isn't pretty, though. There's an over-the-hill Olin Kruetz (Chicago), along with guys like Lyle Sendlein (Arizona) and Chris Spencer (Seattle). The guard class looks deeper, and the Cowboys should do something there, even if it's just bringing back Kyle Kosier. That's if they can afford it under a salary cap.

You were expecting WHAT out of BSPN?

I dont see replacing guroude as anywhere near a top priority on the team. Solve our real problem now and go after the best center on next years draft. Like the brewster kid from ohio state next year. Prossman

It's nice getting some good discussion from you on this site, Pross...and it is wisdom indeed, to build up both the defensive and offensive lines. Amen.:starspin

Depending on a number of different factors, I wouldn't mind us drafting a center and moving Gurode to RG in 2012.

I think I remember Gurode failing somewhat at OG and Parcels discovering he was a better OC.

Call me ignorant, but I just can't understand why a center with his size would be less effective at guard. I think it was a maturity issue (I've heard cutting his buddy torrin tucker made a difference) and not a can't play guard issue.

You definately remember correctly, but I believe the reason he failed is debatable.
