Barber has swollen bursa sac in left knee

January, 11, 2010

By Calvin Watkins

IRVING, Texas -- Cowboys running back Marion Barber, who had only three carries in the wild card win over the Eagles, reinjured his left knee.

According to a source, Barber has a swollen bursa sac in the left knee.

In the regular-season finale vs. the Eagles, Barber suffered a bruised knee. It didn't bother him again until a few days before the playoff game where he was limited in practice.

The Cowboys expect Barber, who had an MRI on Monday morning, to be limited again this week as they prepare for the divisional game against the Vikings.

Also, backup running back Tashard Choice left the playoff game with an undisclosed injury. A source tells ESPN's Matt Mosley that Choice didn't suffer another concussion.

A team source tells ESPNDallas that Choice is fine.

It will be interesting to see if the team goes with Felix Jones as the starter this week with both their backs a little nicked up.

Looks like we might get a chance to see what our "WOW" can do from the starter role. Maybe we'll see another Austin/KC performance as our true RB starter steps up to the plate.

This is not a Barber bash, I just like him as a closer/punisher. I see alot of yards left on the field in the early part of the games due to lack of speed or burst.

Not that his market value would be a lot but I think Barber is expendable.....

Dose the day Jerry overpaid for him count; because I said then that he was to slow to be a feature back. I wanted him resigned but at a smaller cost I liked the way barber ran and I liked him as a player but I never saw him as a feature back but more of a good 2nd back that can start if you have an injury type.

I hope Barber is ready for the Vikings game, we are going to need him...

Eh, I think we'll be just fine with Felix and Tash.

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. If he doesn't play, we should be fine. Is it Sunday yet?

Bursa sac injuries are painful.

Had one in my elbow. Darn thing wasn't right for half a year.

Barber's greed would hear nothing of it. He and his agent demanded $40M and Jerry caved. Jerry should have just forced Barber to sign the tender and play a year as the lead back. The asking price would have suddenly gone way down. There also would have been less pressure for Garrett to try and get $10M of production out of Barber - maybe he uses Choice and Felix more this year and last year.
