Terry Bradshaw is bemused by Tony Romo -- especially how, when, where, and with whom Romo chooses to relax.

"If only Tony had called me and said, 'Terry, Jessica [Simpson] and I are going to go to Mexico,' I would've told him: 'You crazy? Don't do that! The paparazzi is going to find you, man. You're a star. She's a star. It's just going to happen,' " Bradshaw said in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"Tony is obviously different than me. He's one of the young kids who wears his cap on backward. It's cool. And God bless him. I like the heck out of Tony Romo. I just wouldn't have done what he did ... I couldn't allow my mind to go there."

Romo, who has been linked with various celebrity girlfriends, is currently keeping company with Simpson, who wore a pink and white jersey with Romo's No. 9 when she watched him play (and lose) against the Eagles on Dec. 16. Last week, during the Dallas Cowboys' bye week, they flew to Mexico and lounged at a resort there, raising eyebrows and questions as the Cowboys prepare to face the New York Giants in an NFC semifinal.

Bradshaw didn't appear to be criticizing the quarterback on moral grounds. But he did wonder why Romo would put himself in the position he finds himself in, especially when he must realize that Cowboys fans were putting their collective postseason hopes on his shoulders. Bradshaw, an analyst with Fox NFL Sunday who won four Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers, said he would not have been able to detach himself off mentally for such a public vacation.

"For an athlete, there's no time off ... until it's over," Bradshaw said. "You don't take a mental break ... No way that I would ever, ever do what Tony did."

"Everybody in Dallas knows you played horribly when Jessica showed up [against Philadelphia]. OK, now what if you play poorly [against the Giants]? You haven't exactly lit up the place lately. I don't understand. Why set yourself up?"

New York Giants linebacker Michael Strahan, who is newly divorced, had some fun with the topic in Thursday's news conference. "You guys love to say, 'Oh, he is coming off the beach and he is dating Jessica Simpson.' Please! Heck, if Jessica Simpson wanted to date me, I may give her a shot."

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, meanwhile, said he had no issue with Romo and how he spent his bye week.

"I have no qualms, no concerns about Tony's social life or his relationships," Jones said. "I have had a lot of concerns during my 19 years as owner about a lot of players. I am not a novice in this area. But there is not one concern about how he relaxes or what he does with his time."

Simpson, by the way, is reportedly not planning to attend Sunday's playoff game in Texas.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.

Yes-that's b/c Terry Bradshaw, once upon a time ago, had a FAMILY to attend to during these bye weeks.

Instead of going to Cancun, he went to either Six Flags or the movies during the bye weekend with his FAMILY.

I think Terry wouldn't have done what Tony did, because Jessica wouldn't have been interested. :D The word here should be couldn't.

Don't know how much more overblown this can get. How much do you want to bet other players took some time off as well and flew across the country?

I hope Romo tosses four TD's tomorrow and shuts everyone up.

When I see Tony Romo be in movie after Movie with Burt Reynolds ..... I will listen to Terry Bradshaw.

There was never a more celebrity QB than him.

Terry won four super bowls - I can't knock anything he says. He knows that it's overblown, and that's why he wouldn't have done it. But, different things work for different people.

If a 4-time super bowl winning hall of fame QB has advice, anyone would do well to listen. I remember most of us criticizing Eli Manning for blowing off Troy Aikman's advice about becoming a leader in offseason preparation.

I respect Bradshaw but because he would not have done this does not make it right or wrong for Romo.

Exactly. Everybody has their way of doing things. I would also add that back in Terry's days there was no bye week. (I know there was) I remember players never seemed to stop practicing.

Let me tell ya'all a little story bout Mr. Bradshaw...

Several years back I was at an autograph signing event in NJ

Bradshaw was 1 of the participants...from what I was told, the players that participate receive a flat rate, based on their "popularity"...and it doesn't matter if they sign 1 autograph or a million...each session lasts about 4 hours... EZ Money...

Bradshaw was there...and was drunk as a skunk...in front of little kids to boot...nearly fell off his chair...SO drunk that he left right in the middle of signing autographs...

So there stands a line of people, with their kids...holding tickets, which they had already paid for....waiting to get their "idols" autograph....who was no where to be found.

I don't know where this hypocritical fool gets off pointing fingers at Romo....I would sure like to relay my story about Bradshaw on air

:D You know since Terry made those comments, it automatically means that the Fox pregame show will spend 10 minutes discussing this.

True. There are certain things that have constantly been said about Romo and one is his work ethic, the man puts in the time and work needed to get ready and that should tell people something about this guy. He worked his butt off to get where he is and he still does what needs to be done. Now if he wants to take a couple of days during their off days and go to Mexico then good for him but to think that is going to deter Romo from doing his job then these people have no clue about Tony Romo. You would think some fans would give him a little more credit than they have

This is a serious question. Why can Brady go to NY and hang out with his celebrity girlfriend all weekend and get a pass, and Romo has everyone writing about the downfall of modern civilization because he spent a weekend relaxing with his celebrity girlfriend?

And I know the media hates the Cowboys and loves the Patriots, but my question is - why?

Herd...Brady and his girl kind of live together so it's seen as no big deal but what Romo does with his time is HIS business IMHO......In any event this will all stop when you play GB, Farvres exploits at the outset of his career are legendary and are in part why Atlanta was happy to trade him....
