Filling their need for a proven tailback, the Denver Broncos on Monday reached a contract agreement with Travis Henry, who was released on Saturday by the Tenenessee Titans to avoid paying him an $8.3 million roster bonus.

Henry will sign a five-year contract that includes $12 million in guarantees, ESPN.com has learned.

Within hours of his release, Henry flew to Denver and visited with Broncos officials over the weekend, while agent Hadley Engelhard negotiated a deal. Henry also drew considerable interest from the Oakland Raiders, who hoped to bring him in for a visit this week.

Henry, 28, carried 270 times for 1,211 yards and seven touchdowns in 2006, and notched six 100-yard outings. The former University of Tennessee standout spent the first four years of his career with the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Titans in 2005.

In 78 games, including 62 starts, Henry has carried 1,321 times for 5,395 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also has 134 receptions for 886 yards and two scores. In addition to his 1,000-yard season in 2006, Henry ran for over 1,000 yards in two of his four seasons with the Bills.

Senior writer Len Pasquarelli covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

Good running back in a good scheme. Denvers run game will be deadly as usual.

Shanahan did not trust Tatum. He was injury prone and more importantly fumble prone. He has fumbled 9 times on 528 combined rushing attempts and receptions or once every 58.67 touches. As a comparison, Julius Jones has fumbled 8 times on 782 touches or once every 97.75 touches.

Titans lost Bennett as well. They did not have a lot of good depth at the skill positions and now have lost their top running back and one of their better receivers.

I guess they have salary cap issues or something. Of course Bud Adams is a terrible owner, too. As it looks now, they will take a step backwards in their win-loss record and it is still yet to be determined what will happen to the Pacman.

Travis Henry really hasn't had the mileage of other backs that's been in the league that amount of time. I'm happy he's finally going to get a chance to be the main guy...

according to Peter King they have $22.3 million in cap room which is way more than enough to make some big splashes. i'm visiting a titans message board right now and their fans are lived and cant blame them at all! i havent even heard of them even getting anyone to visit them...

Mike Bell will take a lot of carries away from Henry limiting his ability to gain 1400 yds.. The combo should do well.
