Bruce Carter could be headed to PUP

July, 28, 2011 Jul 288:29AM CTEmail Print Comments2 By Calvin WatkinsSAN ANTONIO -- Cowboys second-round pick Bruce Carter might be headed to the Physically Unable to Perform list when he's checked out by team officials today.

Carter, who is expected to arrive here today, suffered a knee injury last season while playing for North Carolina. He needed reconstructive surgery which lowered his draft stock among NFL teams. Cowboys' officials projected Carter as a first-round pick and believe the inside linebacker can play a major role once he's healthy.

Victim of the lockout. Could not work with Cowboy trainers the last few months on rehab.

I read a quote from Carter not long ago and he indicated that he was nearly 100 percent and looking forward to training camp.

That does not sound like PUP to me.

That would be disappointing considering he was 85% healthy two months ago...

I think you will see alot of this in camp this year. These players may very well be mostly ready to participate, but the Cowboys will want their training staff to evaluate these guys for a couple of weeks before letting them participate. I believe that Gurode is in the same boat.

He won't miss any time this season, probably just some training camp which is unfortunate, but the staff needs time to evaluate the knee and see how it will respond to the game.

This guy better be special to warrant this because we need our 2nd round pick on the field ASAP.

We can't afford to do the redshirt thing anymore.

Sounds like CW is just posting to post something. I don't see anything new here or that he *IS* going on PUP.

Playing it safe. No OTAs...no Cowboy trainers...no offseason...

In April, Dr. James Andrews sent Carter a letter clearing him for football activity, but the Cowboys most likely will be cautious with him.

If Carter goes on the PUP list, he will join veteran center Andre Gurode, who had minor knee surgery in late June.

Bunch of nothing guesses.

I thought going on the PUP means you miss the 1st 6 weeks of the season?

Thought his doctor signed off on him to practice.

It doesn't matter what his doctor says, Calvin Watkins decides who is going on PUP and who isn't. Don't you know that! :laugh2:

Why do we keep drafting these "would-be-in-first-round" injuried LBs in the second round? I am all for these bargains in the later rounds, but second-round picks are supposed to be much more productive than Sean Lee and Carter.

Only if you're on PUP at the start of the regular season. During preseason, you can still be added to the active roster at any time.

Sean Lee wasn't productive? You seem to think 2rd picks should be starters from day one. While it does happen, it is by no means a standard.

Sean Lee was a great pickup. Not only as a player but as a need. I think that pick was a double win for the Cowboys.

Still seems like a very stupid pick to me - especially with so many holes.
