Cal quarterback Jared Goff plans to announce he will enter the NFL draft, a source told ESPN.com.

The school sent out a release earlier Wednesday that Goff will discuss his future plans at a Thursday news conference.

Goff, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior out of Novato, California, passed for 4,719 yards with 43 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and a completion percentage of 64.5 in 2015. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 467 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions against Air Force on Tuesday at the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, setting Cal bowl game and Armed Forces Bowl records.

Goff's six touchdown passes Tuesday tied for the second-most touchdown passes thrown in a bowl game, joining Connor Halliday, Geno Smith and Chuck Long. With 43 TD passes in 2015, he broke the Pac-12's single-season touchdown pass record, which was previously held by Oregon's Marcus Mariota, who had 42 in 2014.

ESPN's Todd McShay projects Goff as the second-best quarterback in the 2016 draft class, behind Memphis' Paxton Lynch. Goff is No. 10 on the Big Board of ESPN's Mel Kiper, who cites Goff's "special arm," "good movement," and "anticipation."

Right choice by him.

Hopefully we make the right choice when we are on the clock.

He will be gone by the time we pick. Browns will grab him.

If there's no trades I think the Browns would take Lynch over Goff. I would think he's built better for a cold weather city...

Lynch is going to go earlier because scouts love tools and sky high ceilings. Nearly every single draftnik I've seen has Lynch ahead of Goff for this reason and thats how boards are put together. Anyone who has watched these two this season can see that Goff is much more polished as a QB.

The only way I see Goff going before Lynch at this point is a SF trade up to the number 1 pick. I personally think thats unlikely just due to cost. From 5, that probably costs them 2 1sts and a 2nd, maybe more. They would be much better off trading with SD at 3 which would be cheaper and still get ahead of the Cowboys to get Goff.

Yea, assuming the top 5 doesn't change on Sunday, San Francisco trading up is the only thing between us and either Lynch or Goff

I can almost never tell who will be a good NFL QB and who won't, but I hope we at least take a long hard look at this kid.

I think that Goff is more refined and ready for the NFL than Lynch, but I would have some concerns about how he would adapt to the NFL out of the gate. Many of the spread guys have had a steep learning curve entering the league, and I don't think it will be any different here. Whoever drafts him will need to have a good, fundamental based QB coach, and a lot of patience. I would love to have Dallas get him, but only if Wade Wilson is not the QB coach.

Truthfully I think we have a shot at him at 4. Browns take Paxton let's say. Chargers and Titans aren't taking qbs

But they could trade to someone who would.

And rather easily. SF could jump from 5 to 3 for their 1st and 2nd rd picks. It matches up very well on the trade chart. SD also probably wouldn't have any problems doing that even if Tunsil is available. SF isn't going OT and neither is Dallas. They could drop 2 spots, get an extra 2nd and have a slightly cheaper contract for their draft pick. Unless SF wins this weekend, I'm starting to think they would have to trade up with SD if they actually wanted Goff that bad.
