ESPN Chat with Bryan Broaddus - 11/18/10

He answered my question, sorta.

Shooter McSwaggin (from South Cak)

Thanks again for all your insight Brian. With Dallas likely picking in the top half of the first round next year. Do you see them targeting either Patrick Peterson or Prince Amukamara? Both seem like big time DBs and would immediately upgrade Dallas' secondary. Or do you see them holding off and taking a guy like Deandre McDaniel in the 2nd?

I went to school at LSU so I have a feel for Peterson...they need some corners and safeties out of this next draft...how high they select one will be interesting...plan to get started on the draft after this season.

McCann can continue to make plays. I was there during training camp and all he did was compete against the best of the receivers that he could go up against...he didn't make this roster because the front office thought it was more important to keep players that couldn'nt play.

Tell us what you really think, Brian.

I need to ask about Jeff Reed and I will but I have given up on Choice playing unless the GM comes out and tells Garrett to play him.

This has been pretty obvious. I wonder what the issue is, if there is one, between Garrett and Choice?

Whomever the new coach is whether its Garrett or others...Mike Nolan is a name you always have to consider if he is on the street...if Garrett is the coach...it's Pasqualoni's job.

This ought to make some people pretty unhappy. Not sure I agree with Broadus here, though.

Me either.

Broaddus has gotten progressively less credible since TC IMHO. Not in the sense that he is providing inaccurate reports, but I think we overrated his ability to evaluate talent. He provides a refreshing insight in terms of being a former scout, but I think there is a reason he's not employed.

He might as well have said, "Maybe."

No, he said "I haven't a clue who you're talking about. I will look at that later today so I don't feel like such a dunce next time." :muttley:

It's hard to argue when we kept only 3 corners and went with guys who did or have done absolutely nothing, such as Jason Williams, Brandon Williams, Leon Williams, or even Alex Barron.

Oh. I'm not arguing. In fact, I'm glad to hear that Brian essentially thinks McCann showed he was a player in camp. It's just a blunt, damning criticism of the front office.

It might just be that his sources are most useful right after the draft and in camp where they're still evaluating the players. And that during the season he's relying more on his own impressions.

I like Broadus, though, and appreciate his impressions. He tries hard to be fair in his assessments.

Would have been nice if he had actually answered the question or at least hinted at it, lol.

He did answer the question.

He acknowledged the team needed secondary help, but stated he didn't know how high they'd take one. He followed up by stating he'd focus on the draft after the season.

Sounds like a genuinely honest answer. Would you prefer he make stuff up to pacify you?

Thanks Mrs. Broaddus.

I kinda doubt it. Garrett wasnt the one who brought Pasqualoni here.

That said, if the defense has a trmendous turn around the remainder of the season, there's no reason he wouldnt be in the discussion to stay as DC. I stil dont think he'd be the guy though.

For Jerry to be able to sell Garrett to most fans, it won't be enough for the offense to play well and lose high-scoring games because of poor defense. I think Pasqualoni plays a big part in whether or not Garrett becomes (remains?) an attractive sell, and it sort of ties their fates together to an extent.

In any case, if both offense and defense continue to play like they did last week, it would be awkward for Garrett to show his appreciation by replacing his DC.
