Edge to the NFC: The NFC now leads the AFC, 23-20, in head-to-head games. Though the top AFC teams such as the Patriots, Colts and Steelers are 7-1 against the NFC, the rest of the NFC has caught up to the AFC.

I've been telling people this all year. The AFC and NFC aren't that different. Oh BTW, the top NFC teams Cowboys, Pack and NYG are 7-1 against the AFC.

Anyone who has been paying attention already knew that the NFC was competitive in the head to head matchups between the conferences. Yet the perception was that the AFC was far superior. ???

If the Pats were in the NFC, everyone would be talking about how the NFC was vastly superior to the AFC.

Who else is in the AFC? The Colts, who can barely suit up 45 guys? The Steelers, who lose to the Cardinals and Jets?

That might have been a good stat for him to research and include in his statement.

Thanks WG I was just wondering what the heads up record was between the conferences.

I agree the gap has narrowed, however the preception will not change unless the NFC (Dallas Cowboys) goes out and beats the Pats in the SB. AFC has been dominating the big game for the last few season and until that changes the media will continue to hail the AFC as the elite conference

Clayton sure looks more like an accountant than a sportswriter, but the guy cannot add.

NFC East & North are 17-4, NFC West & South are 6-17, for a total of 23-21.

Plus it's not possible for total wins and losses to equal an odd number. 23-20 would only be 21.5 games played

Add to that the following:

record of top 6 teams of each division:
AFC 43-17
NFC 43-17

Conference records Total records
AFC 79-81
NFC 81-79

It looks to me that both divisions are relatively equal - parity if you will.
