So everyone seems to be agreeing that our front 7 is the worst in the league, yet everyone seemed to agree that we'd be better than the worst defense in the NFL again? Go figure.

Good post.

I'm fine with having an underdog defense. We'll be better than that, and improve as the year progresses. Those who take us lightly will be disappointed.

Our secondary will be more experienced, and won't have to cover as long because we'll finally have a pass rush. The front seven will be more cohesive, and won't consist of the neighborhood kids. And the offense should be able to run some clock.

Getting weary of playing games this early on paper. Anxious to see them for real.

I see this the same way. At least the Cowboys have some young players that have actually been playing football for the last 4 years or so. Last year, and I think the year Ryan was here, the Cowboys were signing players that worked at Home Depot and Joe's Bar & Grill.

As they say, football is a young mans game, and there will be some growing pains for the young guys, but never underestimate the tenacity of a young hungry player. If the coaches can put them in the right scheme, then I doubt they will be the worst in NFL History like last year.

Melton and his rehabbed knee, and a hand full of players that has done nothing in their pro career are gonna leas us to at least the 30fh worst DL in the league. Now that is progress.

LOL at the "neighborhoo kids" line. But, that's the actual factuals. I just hope Marinelli sticks with his man-to-man philosophy and he's not just blowing smoke up our butt. I hope he doesn't get scared and go zone because he sees some "elite QB" coming up on the schedule.

If anything these articles make me look forward to training camp so we all can get a better idea of how our DLine will look in 2014.

You're right, because, if that's the case, we'll be rewriting history .... and I don't anticipate that happening.
Basically, I only anticipate sugar plums and gum drops.;)

I'm not really sure if training camp will tell us that much. Remember how they said DWare was schooling everybody last year? We know how well that worked out.

I'd be surprised if they have the worst defense two years on the bounce. They will probably end up around 28th, should be good for about 8 wins.

Ware looked pretty good until the injuries piled up again tbh.

32. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys lost DeMarcus Ware, Jason Hatcher and (in the saddest, most ridiculous minicamp story of the year) Sean Lee from a defense that allowed 2,056 rushing yards and recorded just 36 sacks last year. Henry Melton arrives as a younger, more system-suited replacement for Hatcher, but everything else is a shambles. Bruce Carter, Justin Durant and DeVonte Holloman form the most anonymous linebacker corps in the league, and only Carter has any significant starting experience. Anthony Spencer may start the season on the PUP list as he battles back from microfracture surgery on his knee. And of course, the Cowboys are so cap-stressed that they wouldn't be able to sign a veteran reinforcement, even if one becomes available this late in the offseason.

The wisest thing the Cowboys could do is insert rookies Demarcus Lawrence and Anthony Hitchens into the rotation quickly and let them learn on the job. The Cowboys did not get into this predicament by doing the wise thing. But they are so thin and talent-poor that they may not have a choice.

It's a list comprised by some guy (I've never heard of him)
Whoops, I just started a thread using the original article before I saw this.

But Tanier is the best guy out there writing about football, and everyone ought to be aware of his stuff.
I was worried about this until I saw it was based on Pro Football Focus rankings.
Huh? It's not.

If there's one preseason ranking I can't imagine being controversial, it's putting the Cowboys' front seven at the bottom of the league. Sure, they may turn out to be better than some other teams' units, but it's hard to point to any specific ones at this point.

We just all think we're the worst until we can demonstrate otherwise. As everybody is saying: we've got a lot of question marks. If we get good answers to several of them, we really ought to be improved. But the defense has done nothing to get the benefit of the doubt at this point.

I haven't seen the rest of the leagues front 7's but we have to be somewhere near the bottom until proven otherwise.

Our front seven on paper isn't impressive. But I'm optimistic about this unit. It's a much cheaper unit and cannot be much worse than last years bunch.

Well, there's a difference between preseason rankings and how things will play out. I think Dallas probably has a higher probability of being the worst defense in the league than any other team does. But that probability may be only 30-40%. In other words, for worst defense, I'd pick the field against Dallas, but I wouldn't pick any individual team against Dallas.

That seem about right, No. 32.

A great question posed to Gil Brandt would be: What was, in your estimationalitate, would be the Cowboys worst defense up until 2013?

He might half said 1962, maybe 1989.

Our defense next year will be textbook as to what NOT to have as defenders. On the other hand, this no-name defense is what we half and their hard work should not be ignored. I am sure they will play up to their best abilities, and that will be up to No. 32 in the NFL.

Look forward to seeing our offense play in 2014. I shudder to think of our defense.
