Cowboys getting strained at linebacker spot

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

FRISCO, Texas -- With Sean Lee working through a hamstring strain and Anthony Hitchens not all the way back from a tibial plateau fracture suffered in the preseason, the Dallas Cowboys might be forced to go with four linebackers Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

That is quite a strain to put on one position group, especially with Jaylon Smithcontinuing to work his way back from a serious knee injury that forced him to miss last season.

If Lee can’t play, veteran Justin Durant would start at weak-side linebacker with Smith in the middle and Damien Wilson at strong-side linebacker. In the sub packages, all three could find themselves in a rotation.

Suspended indefinitely in a vat of purple drank.

There's a well-known philosophical problem surrounding the possibility that we're all brains in a vat (the movie The Matrix appears to have been partly inspired by the problem). The problem of McClain in a vat isn't likely to have such far-reaching consequences, though it's at least as much fun to consider.

We should have signed Elijah Lee before the 9ers did. Cowboys just need to bite the bullet and sign Daryl Washington as Sean Lee insurance. And bring in Ben Boulware to back up the MIKE and ST. He is a pit bull of a player with crazy intangibles to make up for his lack of athleticism.

Think Bene Benikwere but a more proven playmaker.

Why not just go nickel and roll with Damien Wilson and Jaylon Smith...

We have Durant and Keith Smith that can play. No need to sign anybody.
