ARLINGTON, Texas -- Over the last few months, the Dallas Cowboys have wanted to show they would be a physical football team and not just talk about it. They showed it in May when they drafted guard Zack Martin in the first round, not Johnny Manziel. They showed it in August when they gave left tackle Tyron Smith a $109 million contract. They showed it in their first preseason game when they ran the ball on six of the eight first plays, trying to establish that mindset.
