ESPN has nothing to do with it.
The designation is bestowed by Forbes Magazine \ Forbes.com --they do likewise rankings for the most profitable companies, weathiest individuals, celebrities, etc.
ESPN - like other sports entities such as Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, etc. -- just report their findings.
Probably two or three other financial institutions conduct rankings also..but Forbes is the one most touted.
Sportico is the entity that made the assessment about the Cowbiys franchise; ESPN just reported it.
