Cowboys odds and ends
September, 6, 2010 Sep 62:14PM CTEmail Print Comments By Calvin WatkinsIRVING -- A few things we noticed from the 30 minute media opportunity that was given to watch practice.

1. Dez Bryant is fielding punts and kickoffs.

The Cowboys want to get their best players on the field and Bryant appears one of them. Not only is he the No. 3 receiver but he was fielding punts and kick returns during the special teams portion of practice on Monday. Bryant is getting backed up by Felix Jones and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah on kick returns. Kevin Ogletree backed up Bryant on punts.

2. Chris Boniol is still here.

When the Cowboys hired Boniol it was to work with kicker David Buehler during training camp. His status for the regular season is uncertain, but Boniol was helping, at least for now, on the special teams unit.
3. Jersey and locker changes

Bryant's stall was moved from next to Montrae Holland to near Deon Anderson. A few jersey numbers also changed. Sean Lissemore is 95, Josh Brent is 92, Scott Chandler is 86 and Cliff Louis is 78.Share Tags:Dallas Cowboys, NFL, Dez Bryant, David Buehler, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, David Buehler, Dez Bryant, Chris Boniol, Sean Lissemore

No practice for Kyle Kosier, Marc Colombo
September, 6, 2010 Sep 62:06PM CTEmail Print Comments By Calvin WatkinsIRVING -- The first regular-season practice is under way, and two offensive line starters, Kyle Kosier and Marc Colombo, missed things as they still recover from knee injuries.

Both players, with their right knees wrapped, did rehab work while Montrae Holland (guard) and Alex Barron (tackle) got reps with the first team.

Roy Williams, who missed last Tuesday's full practice with a lower back strain and a hip flexor, returned to practice.

Keith Brooking (shoulder), Marcus Spears (knee) and Gerald Sensabaugh (shoulder) also practiced.

Colombo should be practicing soon. I thought he would be ready to go Game 1.

I guess Watkins didn't hear that Boniol is staying for the season. I think the Cowboys said that would be the case about a month ago.

I remember hearing that, too.

I suppose you're only allowed to forget if it's your job to remember?

Nah. Way too premature to be talking trouble. Check back after the BYE week. That's when you can get a better assessment.

But hell, what do I know?

Alex Barron at RT scares the **** out of me. Thankfully Andre Carter is a bum.

I'm no Barron fan at this point but I also don't want Columbo out there until he is truly physically ready. I've seen that movie already.

why is Olgetree backing up Dez on Punt returns? he's a bad returner point blank.

LOL!

Yeah, that movie sucked didn't it?

You know I listened to the presser and what I took away from it that Wade was being really coy and lots of B.S. was flying. I think his time in S.D. is paying off with the way he deals with a Shannahan lead ball club. Who the heck knows whats really going to be going on come Sunday. He did state that it wouldn't be giving away any secrets that Dez was going to be a factor in the return game but beyond that little facts were presented, other than the fact he considers Ball and AOA as 4 and 5 on the corner depth chart. He once stated "I dont have to tell you that" LOL on a question about Columbo "its not Wednesday is it?" I think the Boys are feeling a little cocky like they have some secrets up their sleeves ....we'll see

I think they got it backwards. Ogltree is more a kickoff guy.

I do not want Bryant or Felix returning kick-offs. I do want Bryant returning punts. Can't remember the last time I saw a PR actually injured on a return.

Oddly enough, its not a real high risk job. You generally get one or two guys with an initial shot at you and can easily avoid any direct high speed type collisions. You also end up running out of bounds as often as you get tackled.

Now KO returning is a totally different deal. Almost ever return ends up with a high speed collision. Lot more bodies to contend with and the only way to do it effectively requires you to get a running start for 15 plus yards before a bunch of guys running at full speed for 40 yards try to take your freaking head off.

Bryant on kick offs is insane! I want AOA in that role.
