Wow,

even with the NY size fan base never in a million years woulda dreamed the Gnats are #3 - just shows how many bandwagoners are out there. Same for GB at #2. Im 48 yrs old and I never met a Packers fan until the Favre era - then they were everywhere - more bandwagoners.

Philly at #9? How?

Even Skins at #13? who outside of the Beltway area gives a rats . . . . . . about the Skins?

I was surprised to not see the Steelers right behind us at #2.

If there is any margin of error they very well could be.

#2 - 7.2
#3 - 7.1
#4 - 7.1

Really its a statistical dead heat.

we already know the cowboys are the most popular.

they are worth more than the yankees.

i want another super bowl now

Shocking.
To some it may be. It gets old hearing people on ESPN say that they don't know why the Cowboys are America's team.

I find it funny it's mostly teams with the most recent success. Steelers/Packers/Patriots.

I don't know if I should include Packers, but were Steelers/Patriots even relevant until the 2000's?

Pats - NO!

Steelers won 4 SB's in the 70's - and Pitt fans are fiercely loyal. Add the national following that still exists from the 70's and yes they have been relevant for a long time. I still hate them and wish they would go 0-16 every year.

I guess I should've said Steelers after Bradshaw was gone :p

I really don't see anyone bypassing us. Say what you want about Jerry, but he took what was once the most popular franchise in football (I believe in all of sports) that had the arrow pointing down when he bought the team and not only brought it out of NFL purgatory, but made it what it is today. Sure, he owes the founding fathers props for transforming the team from a laughing stock to one of the most respected teams in the NFL (Tex Schramm comes to mind). But what he's accomplished from a marketing standpoint since purchasing the team has been nothing short of impressive.

The Cowboys have not done anything of significance as of late that's deserving of this ranking (lets be honest), yet still we are the most popular team? Why? It can't be the fan base, because everyone knows Cowboys fans are notorious for jumping on and off the bandwagon. Simple. Jerry Jones is a marketing genius. Anyone who can make this team a fan favorite throughout this country and the world, considering our less than stellar performance on the field the last few years is good...very good. Give him credit.

Not only are the Cowboy "Americas Team"...I bet if you go to any obscure other country around the World, and ask if they know a name of an American football team?

I bet 9-10 they would say Cowboys.

;)

I wondered about that, but had no way of knowing.

For some reason the Stealers have always been pretty popular even outside of Pitt - not sure why tho.

Because a lot of the steel workers in Pittsburgh retired elsewhere.

And because they truly are a big bandwagon.

I agree. I have lived in or over 20 countries throughout the last 22 years. It goes like this:

Football=Dallas Cowboys

Basketball=LA Lakers

Baseball= Well, I'm sure everyone knows which team.
