That'd suck, a LB that high? The only one I've ever seen recently that was worth that high a pick was Kuechly. A LB isn't going to help us that much. When you pick that highly, you take an impact player at a skill position or trade down period.
I like Smith but i would be dissapointed about that pick,we have 2 LBs from this years draft who have seen very little playing time too.
He shows excellent range against the run and in coverage, and is a far more disruptive pass-rusher than his 4.5 career sacks would lead you to believe.
Hate to say it, but I really hope we don't win anymore games. If we fell out of the top 10, a lot of those prospects between 11-31 are 2nd rounders in most draft years.
As far as Jaylon Smith, this line from the write up...
How about we stop drafting those kind of guys -- the almost guys? How about we draft more of those guys who get a ton more sacks (or turnovers or tackles) than you'd expect based on their physical traits? And honestly, given how little we actually send a LB after a QB, and how obvious we are about it when we do, is that really something we'd put in the 'pros' column when assessing LBers?
If we had to go LB in RD1, please pick Jack. Much better fit here than Jaylon Smith.

1. Tennessee - Joey Bosa DE Ohio St.

3. San Diego - Robert Nkemdiche DT Mississippi
4. Baltimore - Jalen Ramsey DB Florida St.
5. San Francisco - Jared Goff QB California
6. Dallas - Jaylon Smith OLB Notre Dame
I won't be surprised if the Cowboys spend an early-round pick in 2016 on a QB to be Tony Romo's heir apparent. But with Lynch and Goff gone, Smith would be a good way for Dallas to bolster its front seven. He shows excellent range against the run and in coverage, and is a far more disruptive pass-rusher than his 4.5 career sacks would lead you to believe.

Archer shows his *** here. He admits he doesn't know anything about the player and then goes on to say he wouldn't draft him for reasons that wouldn't apply if he knew anything about Jaylon Smith.
Smith can play any LB position and would absolutely be a 3-down backer, even if he plays the SAM. He is a better coverage backer than anyone on this team not named Lee from day one.
I get what you're trying to say but it doesn't apply to Smith. He hasn't been asked to rush the passer much at all since his freshman year. He has been their main zone/coverage backer and has been excellent at it. What a coincidence, that's one of our biggest weaknesses. He shouldn't be measured by that stat in the least. He's definitely shown the ability to get to the QB, he just hasn't been asked to. No almost argument about it.
This guy is a physical freak and plays like it. He really has no weaknesses in his game save he need a little work shedding blockers, but that's a technique issue that can be coached.
All that said, if the raft falls that way and we don't trade back, I take Hargreaves.
Smith would be starter day one, they could move Hitch to MLB if we don't retain McClain
