There's got to be better backups and projects then Mcray and heath lol.

People have been down on Heath since he arrived. He was thrown into the fray way before a small school UDFA should have been. His athleticism is extremely good so giving him the time to develop seems to be the way the staff wants.

He's a capable backup and may end up pushing for more snaps. Who knows for sure now. Everyone should have their job on the line.

Most people didn't notice, but there were times last season when Church was replaced by Heath in obvious passing situations.

As a Safety, Heath >> McCray.

Questions condensed:
QB: 2 or 3.
RB: What happens with Ryan Williams. Any chance they start the season with 4 and cut one after McClain and Hardy return from suspension.
TE/FB: Any chance they go with 4 TEs and no FB. Swaim played some FB in college.
WR: Any chance someone other than Lucky Whitehead is the returner? As a 5th WR, he's basically a developmental backup to Beasley as the slot WR. It would be better to develop more outside options if Whitehead was not the returner. Is Beasley and option at PR?
OL: Does Green stay on PUP. If Yes, Gibson more likely on 53.

DE: Probably 1 or 2 spots between Russell, J. Crawford and Gardner. Maybe 2 initially and then 1 when Hardy returns.
DT: Can Whaley push for a spot.
LB: Rivers or Wilber when RoMc returns. Rivers contract will be guaranteed if he is on the roster for game 1. Does Nzeocha start out on PUP?
CB/Safety: 10 might be a high number. McCray is a ST player only. Is that enough to get a roster spot? Jones and White are backup Safety options and both can likely play ST.

How gets claimed if cut?
Russell is highly likely to get claimed.
Garder?
Whaley?
Gibson?
Swaim?
Nzeocha?
Ryan Williams?

Too bad most will just remember his rookie year when he was greener than the grass on the field.

Ryan Williams makes the squad IMO.

He definitely has a chance, IMO.

It will be difficult, but I could see them keeping 4 RBs considering that McFadden, Dunbar and Williams have had injury issues and Randle could get into trouble again. They could definitely keep 4 until Hardy and RoMc return from suspension.

Heath and McCray can flat cover kicks. That's crucial, especially with Dwayne Harris gone.

You know you have a good team when you can basically get to 47 players before camp starts.

I agree with the vast majority of what Archer has written, with two exceptions.

I think that James Hanna will be traded at some point during training camp and Swaim will end up in that spot.

And I think Ryan Russell will stick around, especially over a special teams only player in Danny McCray. The versatility of White and Byron Jones to play safety will allow the Cowboys to keep just 3 at that position.

I very much think that Gibson's future with the Cowboys is directly tied to what happens with Chaz Green. If Green goes to IR, Gibson stays on the 53, because I don't think they will ever get him to the practice squad.

I do however, see the team stashing both McDermott and Fortenberry there.
