Dak Prescott - QB - Cowboys
ESPN's Todd Archer reports the Cowboys' offense has "has struggled in getting the ball down the field" in training camp.

"Still trying to gain chemistry," Dak Prescott said of his Dez Bryant and Jason Witten-less supporting cast. "It’s going to come." OC Scott Linehan said "we’ve got to make strides quickly here." The Cowboys assembled embarrassingly little talent in the wake of Bryant and Witten's departures. It's going to be another long season for the Cowboys' passing attack, making life difficult on Prescott.

I’ve predicted this for months...

Big plays through the air will be a big issue all year.

The loss of Dez hurts and the lack of guys that can get open downfield are lacking.

Whenever we start seeing Beasley out wide running 9 routes the front office will realize that our coaches are what they are and they aren’t schematically capable of running a offense without a stud WR.

Gonna need a bevy of te running vertical seam routes to keep safeties out of the box....and give Beasley/ austin some room

They have to hope Rico can demand respect downfield much like the Pats do with Gronk to open up the underneath stuff.

Even if Tavon Austin plays well for us he won’t be catching a lot of deep passes for us.

Despite the protestations, Archer isn’t wrong. They have had issues with consistency getting the ball down the field in many of the practices.

It’s something that bears watching as camp progresses.
Yep.

It’s really not headline news. We knew it potentially could be an issue despite however optimistic we’ve tried to be.

We cut Dez and let Butler walk and we added Hurns, Thomspon, Gallup, Wilson, and Austin. This narrative that we have “done nothing to replace Dez” is absurd.

Witten is the more difficult player to replace and I think his retirement legitimately surprised the FO. His consostency, leadership, and blocking are all missing so far from the young guys we have currently on the roster.

We may ironically feel the pain more in the running game than in the passing game

James Jones on NFLN last night didn't have anything good to say at all. But you could tell he was looking at anything negative. Not the positives.

Wait, that sounds a lot like many on here.

Anyway, he had nothing good to say about Tavon Austin. Citing the crap, well if McVay can't use him, then Linehan sure can't. Sounds like this place too.

Thing is, they will not say how he was battling nagging injuries all last year. I know McVay turned that team around, but it sure did not hurt Wade had a bus load of #1 picks on the defense.

For your sake pal. You and the rest of these coaches have gotten things "your way", and you've been able to "weed out" anyone and everyone who didn't buy into what you were doing. You've also been able to bring in "your guys". Any time for excuses has passed. Put up or shut up. Produce or get out.

There really was no indication besides hopeful optimistic opinions to believe losing Dez and Witten would be easily replaced with our off season moves without further evidence.

Regardless even with Dez and Witten we had the 26th ranked passing offense last year so to assume it would be improved with less talent was perhaps at least short sighted.

Time will tell but we should at least be prepared for the reality of the situation and what the effects could be.

Yeah but the Chaz Green / Byron Bell experiment with Smith out. Well, that created so many sacks. Hurried throws, incompletions. And did not help Zeke being out those 6 games. That made the passing offense go from 18th to 26th.

We are to assume the coaches wanted to go with Dak over Romo and ultimately wanted to let Dez go?

How do we know Dak and this group of receiving Corp is what our coaches wanted?

Well if bspn says it then it has to be true. We will be fine. They will get some chemistry in TC and use preseason to simulate game speed and don’t be surprised if we use our first team more in the first 2 preseason games for extra practice. And don’t be surprised if it don’t look pretty. They will be working on things and don’t necesarily reflect what your gonna see during regular season.

Oh come on Michael! We know Dak has thrown 0 touchdowns in 11 on 11s!! Panic, panic, panic!!!

Just being sarcastic. I was going to post the same thing. That’s the problem with over media coverage .... they freak out over everything
We must have a lot of media posters on the CZ!! Lol!

Austin has largely been a non factor since he was overdrafts years ago.

So Jones might not be wrong in his assessment.
