Dallas Cowboys' Twitter mailbag, Part 1
November, 7, 2014 By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

LONDON – Part 1 of the Dallas Cowboys’ Twitter mailbag is ready.

In it we discuss:
  • Any worry after two straight losses
  • The NFC East favorite
  • Drafting a quarterback
  • A new special teams coach
  • Who cashes in on free agency?

@toddarcher: I think it's fair to be worried. I don't want to say the six-game winning streak was a mirage because they played well. But was that their maximum and now are they, to quote Dennis Green, who we thought they were? Perhaps so. This is a must-win game. Anyway they can win it is fine. This will not be about style points. They have to get to 7-3. Just think, a couple of weeks ago we thought they were looking at a 9-1 start. With a loss, they would be 6-4 and have four of their last six games on the road. If they lose, the Cowboys lose any wiggle room. With a win, they can feel good going into the bye. I had them at 8-8 when the season started. Now I think they go 10-6 ... but they have to win Sunday.

@toddarcher: No, I don't think the Cowboys are a clear favorite in the NFC East now that Nick Foles is out for possibly six weeks. That would help the Cowboys, but maybe Mark Sanchezplays better than Brandon Weeden and the Eagles can keep playing well. At the beginning of the year, I didn't think there was a great separation between any of the division teams. They all have holes. The Giants and Commanders have been hurt and inconsistent and are not in the race. It will come down to the Cowboys and Eagles, but I don't think you can call either team a 'favorite.' It's there for either team to take it. That three-week span in which the Cowboys and Eagles meet twice will be really interesting.

@toddarcher: I wondered that earlier in the week, but that was before Jerry Jones said he thinks Tony Romo will play five more years. It's a nice thought but I don't think the Cowboys can plan for that. Romo is 34 and has had three back injuries - albeit separate - in the last two years. That has to be a worry. But here's what I think the Cowboys' philosophy is on drafting a quarterback: When they are ready to move on from Romo, they will draft a guy in the first or second round and play the guy right away. Teams are moving away from grooming a successor, letting a player sit for a few years to learn. You really can't wait that long nowadays. I don't think they see much point in drafting a quarterback in the middle to late rounds, unless somebody falls. There aren't a lot of Russell Wilsons out there who turn into winners in the middle rounds. Most of the starters are top picks. Things change, but I just don't believe they will draft a quarterback early - and possibly late - in 2015.
