ESPN Dallas: Hudson Houck believes in offensive line

IRVING --The Cowboys offensive line is coming off a rough game against the Tennessee Titans last week.

Overall, offensive line coach Hudson Houck said he feels good about his unit.

"I feel good about this group," he said before Cowboys' practice on Wednesday. "You got to look at the overall. We averaged 6.1 yards per rush last week and we're improving in that particular area."

"This week we're going in the worst stadium to play in against probably questionably one of the best defenses, personnel wise in the entire league," Houck said. "Now, they don't have all the answers right now either, they're struggling a little bit like we are, because of wins. They're defensive front, I don't want to underrate what we just played against, [but] they had six sacks the week before they played us. They're a pretty good group, but the group we're playing is really, maybe the best we'll face all year, along with the New York Giants."

I don't think it's unfair to say Houck's return to Dallas hasn't been as expected. I don't know if the induvidual players' talents have been overrated or HH just doesn't have the "touch" anymore but I expected a much improved group when he was brought back to the Ranch...not some disjointed unit who you don't know what to expect out of week-to-week.

Face it, he made a living out of a run oriented offense featuring Mr. Smith. Pass blocking and run blocking are totally different.

We hired one of the premier run blocking O-line coaches and JG passes the ball 75% of the time.

That is what you get when there is no one overall plan originating from the top. We have a bunch of premier pieces in top talent, yet know ONE person putting them all together as a team.

Who is in charge ? Well it depends on which group.

There is so much out there that doesn't mesh.

Heck, we are averaging a lot per carry, so HH is doing his job.

But the teams that win don't put the ball in the air. There have been 26 300-yard passing games this season. The records of those quarterbacks is 7-19... If I'm calling plays, I want to run the ball. That stat alone gives me a better chance of winning if I put the ball on the ground.

People have been hitting me over the head this season saying we are a passing team, not a running team. Okay, I've finally got it, we are a passing team. Sorry that I'm a little slow.

We are a 1-3 passing team.

I'd like to be a 4-0 running team.

I say start Holland with either Brewster or Young.

You know how Wade Phillips stated that Leonard Davis was a "Pro Bowler" after the game.

Jeff Fisher received a question about Courtland Finnegan's performance and stated that Finnegan needs to play the techniques that he's supposed to play and play the defense the way it's supposed to be played. Plus, he stated that Finnegan wasn't the only one in the secondary that needed to do that.

Dallas has put themselves in a position where they need to beat Minnesota and the Giants twice.

We are going to see what this team is made of and how good it is during the next two weeks.
