Too bad we stuck with Witten too long but pulled the plug as soon as Ware started to decline. What's the difference between the two? I guess you could argue salary but I'm pretty sure we could've kept Ware for an affordable price. Not to mention, DEs rotate. Witten just gets in the way of any other TE who might have a chance.

We got rid of Ware because we felt injuries were going to be a factor, I would guess Ware made a ton of more money as well...he didn't want to take a paycut with us. Truth is, he hasn't been that impressive considering his salary.

Ware will likely be asked to take a paycut this season by the Broncos or he will be a cap causality for the 2nd time in 4 seasons. The Broncos save 10 million on the cap by cutting him.

He never missed a game his entire career until missing only 3 games his last year in Dallas. He might've played hurt but even the great Witten did many times. I wouldn't call Ware injury prone. He even went on to play all 16 games his first year in Denver. I don't buy the injury excuse. I can buy salary but then my question is: what if Witten had a high salary? I just couldn't see them cutting a guy like Witten. I understand Tony, despite the age, injuries and salary, because he's our QB, but I can't understand Witten. The guy's untouchable. Not a lot of guys did more for the Cowboys than Ware. There's this perception that he's not a tough guy and not a winner, but I'm sure whoever said that would love a Ware in his prime over a Hardy. The guy's a legend and we just dumped him when he still had some gas left. Nothing wrong with dumping guys early. Bellichick has been doing it forever. But we're the type of team to hold onto guys way too long. We still have Carr and Free.

If I recall, we asked if he would take a paycut...he refused. I recall specifically that season, him being asked after our season ending loss if he would take a paycut. He said he would only to backtrack a couple days. The Cowboys did him a favor by releasing him instead of holding him hostage for a new contract or trading him.

I said then that they got rid of him too early but I understood it.

He still had/has gas left in the tank. But it's not/hasn't been enough to warrant the money he was making here.

I had really hoped that offseason that he'd agree to a pay cut, or some sort of incentive based stuff, so he could have stayed here. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

Thing is...he hasn't done enough to warrant the money he is making in Denver either. He is scheduled to make 11 million next year with only 1 million dead money if they cut him...he is good as gone if he doesn't take a pay cut.

11 million a year isn't worth a 10 sack ceiling from a player who isn't getting any younger and has missed significant time 2 out of the last 3 seasons.
