Dungy addresses Vick drinking photo

Tony Dungy, the former NFL coach who has served as a mentor to Michael Vick of late, addressed a photo this weekend that shows the Eagles' quarterback drinking in a Philadelphia airport bar.
"Michael, you can't do that," Dungy said to SI.com.
Vick was seen in the recent New York Post photo drinking vodka and pineapple juice.
It wasn't immediately clear when the photo was published whether Vick was violating conditions mandated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
In a letter to Vick upon his reinstatement July 27, after a two-year prison sentence for his participation in a dogfighting ring, Goodell wrote that "prohibitions regarding drug and alcohol use" were included.
But an Eagles spokesman, in an e-mail to The Philadelphia Inquirer, confirmed it was OK for Vick to drink alcohol, that it was "not in conflict with terms of his probation or reinstatement with the NFL."

That should work out well for ya Mike:)

WHat the hell does having a drink have to do with running a dog fighting ring?

If he was drinking while hanging out at the SPCA, ok, but having a drink at an airport?

Stupid.

Yeah, I can't stand Vick, but I was thinking the same thing.

So now the NFL can tell a player who is not in the drug program whether they can drink or not? Wow, talk about being iron handed.

Completely ridiculous that this is news, but sadly it's not surprising.

I pity Vick if he accidently runs over some dog that darts out into the street with witnesses present.

The NFL did not say he could not drink. It was Tony Dungy who said it was not wise for Vick to be drinking. I don't care if Vick had a drink, but there are some out there that need to see Vick being a saint after what he did. Sometimes when trying to make a come back from such a horrible incident you have to go above and beyond to at least give the perception that you have changed and improved your life. That is what Dungy is saying. I understand this reasoning even though I don't agree with it in this case. It was just a hotel bar and not a strip club.

Thanks. I was grading some drawings and only scanned the excerpt. Nonetheless, I can understand if his drinking led to his fall from grace but both are mutually exclusive events and if Vick wants to take a drink, he should be able to, regardless of what Coach Dungy says.

how is that?
Vick is public enemy #1 in the NFL right now. Dungy took him under his wing to try and get Vick to grow up and straighten out. Vick is under a huge microscope obviosly and should've done that not in public atleast this early since anything he does will get insane media attention. stay out of the media except for football reasons cause you know Dungy didn't like hearing about this incident.

Pragmatically, someone who gave the NFL a huge black eye, lied to Goodell's face and under oath, and had such a huge fall from grace, doesn't get to skate on little things.

There's probably nothing wrong with him have a drink at the airport. It's not smart though, and that is one of Vick's big problems. He's dumb; he's had a problem with bad friends, dumb choices, very bad lifestyles. If there is anything in his official standing that prohibits him from drinking, this is just dumber.

He's got to be carefully walking that tightrope. Because in America, everyone is just as happy to see you fall....

This is almost exactly what I thought when I first heard this story.

Plus, they didn't have to let him back at all.
