Tight end Gavin Escobar said a phone call this offseason with Detroit tight end Joseph Fauria let him know he’d love play-caller Scott Linehan. Fauria, who’s 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds, is built similarly to the 6-6, 251-poound Escobar, and he caught 18 passes for 207 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Fauria, an undrafted free agent, finished with a higher average per catch (11.5) and more touchdowns than Detroit starter Brandon Pettigrew.

I think he has the tools to be a big weapon for us in this offense. However time will tell if that actually happens.
I just know that the few times he has had catches last season...there was some impressive catches.

He is slowly developing into that guy who can eventually replace Witten, I hope continues down that path. Maybe he can reach the 400-500 yd mark this season with 5-6 TD's.

He has the tools, just needs more touches. I haven't payed close attention to his blocking in camp whether he is improving there or not.

If that shoulder injury is in his rear view mirror he is going to be a handful.

I like Escobar a lot. I'll feel better when I see him using his shoulder to catch a high one, though. That injury to a receiver always makes you nervous.

I don't know where they came up with Fauria at 225 pounds. He was 259 at the combine. The NFL website has him listed at 267.

Look for the Cowboys to use formations that get Escobar, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant on the field together. Most teams will give Escobar single coverage in those situation.
Add TWill, Hanna or the Beas to that group and it's a handful for defenses.

Seems he was getting down field and making some plays in the preseason. See if he can keep it up now.

Escobar is going to be battling Beasley for playing time both play the slot. Beasley is what most teams want in the slot a quick jitterbug who moves the chains as opposed to a big lumbering target like Escobar. Beasley has become more productive each season and appears to be building some pretty good chemistry with Romo and Romo seems to trust him.

Only playing in one preseason game due to an injury isn't helping Escobar's cause. I'm sure the Cowboys would like to see Escobar seize the role in the slot but it appears both he and Beasley will be spitting time once again limiting Escobar's opportunities.

I think Linehan offense will give Escobar some opportunities. I had seen a write up on Linehan saying how much he liked Escobar and was looking to draft him when he was in Det.

From there it is easy the more plays Escobar can make the more opportunities he will get.

I thought that was very light for a guy who's 6'7"... he'd look like a stick at 225.

I'm hoping we go back to using more of the TE seam route. Witten used to kill defense during his prime.

Escobar is a big target who can get down field but the Cowboys want to try and control the ball and Beasley is more of a chain mover. Romo will be looking mostly for Dez down field. With the talent the Cowboys have at receiver Escobar is going to have a difficult time being productive. Even Hanna is making plays due to the Cowboys being so deep in receiving talent.

He has the tools it's getting the opportunity on a team that's loaded with receiving talent. There's not enough balls to go around. It's going to be tough finding a role/situation where he can flourish on a team that has a Jason Witten and a Dez Bryant.

Most of the work done is actually in training camp as opposed to the preseason.

Linehan may be difficult for San Fran to predict at this point, just as he's somewhat of an unknown right now with us. Just because he had a certain tendency with Detroit doesn't necessarily mean he'll do exactly the same with Dallas. It should be interesting seeing how Linehan decides to spread the ball around with his new team. As always, individual matchups are sure to matter greatly and promise to play a prominent role in playcalling.

All the work in training camp is to prepare for games. Escobar can't afford to be battling injuries causing him to miss games. All his injury did was give Beasley more opportunities.

I think maybe Witten has slowed some. His big plays are fewer it seems like. If Escobar can begin to smooth a transition and provide mismatches in the meantime, it will be one less need down the road. I imagine he would need to get better as a blocker but I see no reason why he couldn't with experience.
