I’d tell them to cut me post June then. I don’t see any leverage here for Dallas. You can’t avoid paying top dollar for free agents. Micah and Lamb will get top dollar as well.
It is a serious point of conjecture....if he wants top dollar, we may as well wait and see what he does in 2023. If he does show championship caliber then so be it, what I'm seeing is that there is a distinct possibility of drafting a QB, especially if there's potentially 6 available.
If there was a weak forthcoming class we may of been forced into the Dak extension, however, now let his performance play out.

With an extention we still need to pay him $34m in 2024 and that's before the prorated bonus for that year (and basic minimum salary).
The difference with his contract as opposed to a younger QB like Hurts is that we've still got to pay off the CAP arrears and assuming its a much shorter contract will mean we don't get the 'cheaper' years....remember we still have a further $36m to cover the 2026/27 Void payments.
The cap is growing though. It might actually be smarter taking the cap hit with a rookie quarterback. Look at what Green Bay is doing this season. Dak might be smart to take a team friendly deal with all the young quarterbacks coming down the line. Some team is going to take that chance.

Yes, the CAP's growing and we can always find a way of paying for contracts, however, with big paydays just around the corner for CeeDee, Micah (and probably Diggs/Dak) our problem will still be how to fill out the roster.

I wasnt aware that next years draft class has so many projected 1st Rd QB's and i'm just advocating why go all in AND EXTEND NOW, on a 30 year old QB that coming off an indifferent season and appeared to freeze when the pressure was on. If Dak is willing to take a "smart....team friendly deal", OK sign, but I doubt he will, so as he's going to cost make him play for the contract....as there is the post June cut and draft a QB option.

The only issue with projecting the guys for the next draft is the NIL. Washington’s quarterback would probably been at least the 3rd quarterback if he came out this draft. South Carolina’s quarterback was preseason number 1 in the 2022 draft. I wonder how much money the star kids are making?
