Tim: Floyd, Giants fan here. At first I was okay with our draft but not so much after sleeping on it. If you are not going to get Joe Staley to rpotect Eli's blind side then you have to make a move up in the second round to get Ugoh. Terrible job by the G-men; it looks like they are building for 2008. Your thoughts?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: I was also a little disappointed from the standpoint that I did not see a lot of help for Eli. He is going to be there for a number of years, and Smith will be a nice addition, and the TE they drafted is a big athletic nice looking kid, but they do not need a TE. I thought they could have gotten some firepower that they did not get and that concerns me a little bit.

Zach (CT): A fourth round pick for Randy Moss? You are telling me another team out there was not willing to give a little more? Just seems too easy of a choice if you are the Pats!

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: Well keep in mind that the Pats were one of the few teams that thought they could handle Randy. He will step in there with a little bit different perspective than in other locker rooms, because New England has their locker room loaded with great players and great people. There probably were not as many suitors as people think. Of course with trades the market is key and what you can get at a point in time.

Anthony (CA): Floyd, just wondering what you thought about how AJ Smith and San Diego went about addressing their few needs in the draft?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: I did not think this was one of SD better drafts, and this can happen when you have a full roster without any glaring holes. So the few holes you do have you reach for. I think that is what happned with SD; they reached for guys they could have probably gotten later in the draft. They probably could have gotten Davis later in the draft. But Weddle is a nice player, who can play many different positions.

Joe (Syracuse): Floyd What do you think Brian Leonard's role will be in Scott Linehan's offense- fullback, h-back, or back-up halfback? Do you see him as a go-to guy around the goal line?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: I would say all of the above. Brian can fill a number of slots, and that is great. He can be a FB, he can run the ball, he can catch the ball. He can do so much, and do it well. And it would be interesting to see where teams had him lined up. It seems like half of the teams had him at HB and the other half had him at FB. But his ability to do all those things make him a special player.

Majeed: Give me your take on the Fins decision to pass up on Brady Quinn?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: I think there are several issues. A large number of teams did not have him rated as high as some of the public. After Miami passed on him there were a number of teams that had their selections in their sights or were not getting enough in a trade. So what happens is that the teams interested in trading keep talking while the player keeps falling.

Joe, Minneapolis: Hi Floyd. The Eagles have a strong team policy of patching holes before they form. Still the Kolb pick took be my surprise. Can you tell me anything about this Kid? He is way below the radar of most NFL fans.

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: He was a four year starter at Houston. He is a big, physical, talented kid with a strong arm. He can also run. The knock on him are that he has only been in one system, from high school and through college. So his adapting to an NFL offense may take a bit of time. Also people did not see him throw the ball deep a lot, so people did not know how well he threw the deep ball. Andy Reid had his eye on this kid, and was obviously willing to give him the time to develop into an NFL QB.

Josh (Nashville): Floyd, who would you have wanted for the Titans in the first round? As a Titans fan, I wanted Anthony Spencer.

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: Well the unfortunante thing for the Titans is that they had a number of holes coming into the draft, since they did not address a lot of them during FA. That is why I was surprised they went for a S, which is one of the deepest positions on the team. I think they are going to have to work some type of magic here to refill that roster. If it would have been me I would have taken a WR like Meachem or Bowe; I would have had to have looked hard at one of those two guys. They have a ROY QB there, without any RB help or a front line receiver.

Derek (Toronto): Floyd, what do you think the Raiders record will be three years from now, with their new franchise QB and excellent young defense

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: The defense is playoff caliber, and they have made giant steps in repairing the offense through the draft and free agency. Do not expect a great deal next year from this team, but in one or two years you should see great improvements. Give JaMarcus a year to adapt and then I think you will see a huge turnaround.

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI): Who will have the better career John Beck with Miami or Brady Quinn with Cleveland?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: You know right now I would have to give the edge to Brady. Beck is a program QB, and I think that if he is in the right situation, the right offense, he will have a chance to be productive because he is a smart guy. He could operate well in a West Coast offense. Quinn on the other hand I think could fit in any style of offense. Quinn needs to improve his accuracy, but mentally he can run a variety of offenses.

Mike (CT): Floyd, who do you view as someone who can be a huge sleeper in the later rounds of this draft?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: It has always been my philosophy on sleepers that if they are drafted they are really not sleepers, because teams knew about them. I think the real sleepers are in FA, and in that group right now there will be a handful of guys, but it is hard to tell right now.

Jas (Montreal): What do you think about the Colts going WR in first round? What about their entire draft?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: The Colts have drafted well the last several years. Gonzalez was one of the more underrated WRs in the draft. I think he will be a great choice for that team. He will come in and be able to line up in the slot almost immediately and should have the athleticism to run all the patterns. I also think he has better speed than people give him credit for. He should be able to get down the field and cacth the deep ball. It is interesting how they keep bringing in the WRs and RBs that fit the system, and as long as they have Peyton than they will have a chance to win every year.

Brad (Colorado): Most of the draft grades I've read so far chastise the Broncos for drafting such high risk character players. Why are the Broncos chastised while the Lions and Bucs aren't? All three teams drafted players with the exact same 'character' flaw (marijuana use).

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: Well I think the main issues with Denver is they only drafted four people, and at least one or two have had incident with marijuana. Their last pick, 4th rounder marcus Thomas, DT from Florida, may have been the number one character risk in the draft. So when you only have four picks and then you have those risks within the four picks, it drops your percentage of having a good draft.

Nik (Waupaca, WI): Floyd, what player in this draft fell into the perfect situation for them? Troy Smith to the Ravens maybe?

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: I think there are probably a number of people. I think Troy did get himself into a good situation. he now has McNair as a role model, and he can take the opportunity to learn a lot from Steve. Troy already has a lot of the intagibles, but now he needs to learn about the NFL's offenses and defenses. So yes this may have been one of the top three clubs Troy could have ended up playing for.

sn2.gif
Floyd Reese: It is intersting viewing the draft from outside the war room. After 32 straight years in a war room I found I was a lot smarter out of the war room. I think this draft was intersting because the need picks came up so quickly, and every time there is a need pick, especially early in a draft, it skews everything and creates chaos. Anyway, thanks for chatting with me today! See you next week!

Why is it we hear BPA every year? It's always been BPA at a need position. In fact it's not always that. Often it's BPA not a character risk who fits our system best at our neediest position that's not too much of a reach.
