future power rankings are even more useless than weekly power rankings

But just for the sake of arguing...one of the reasons the Cowboys are low are questions about Tony's age...while Denver, GB, NO, and NE are all near the top with guys just as old.

We have one of the youngest teams in the league, yet we're ranked in the bottom five? Granted youth isn't everything, but I'm sure we'll have Romo for the next 3 years and our young defense, o-line, and WRs can only get better...

In fairness to the article, they ranked Dallas 13th at quarterback. They were in the bottom 5 for Non-QB Roster, Drafting, Front Office, and Coaching

The Cowboys were 13th at QB. Tony Romo ranked tied for eighth in our recent "QB Tiers" project, but that was for the present. The future rankings project forward through 2016, when Romo will be 37 years old. How will his surgically repaired back hold up?

To me, they're raising questions about his health in the future, and dinging them for that.

I think NE and GB get a pass.

Rodgers is 4 years younger than Romo.

NE has probably the best coach/gm and owner set up in the league, and in 2008 they went 11-5 with Matt Cassel. I think they'll be able to groom someone to fill the void left by Brady, or at least shift their philosophy to give their new young gun the help he needs. After all, they actually won all those super bowls through team work when Brady wasn't the Brady he is today.

NO never amounted to anything before Brees and he's clearly in decline. Payton may find a replacement, there's no track record to show it. Not to mention, replacing that chemistry the two of them have will be tough. Without each other they haven't exactly lit the world on fire.

Denver? They're in the same boat as us. Maybe worse off for the future. It took us 6 years to go from Aikman to Romo. It took Denver 13 years to go from Elway to Manning, and obviously Manning is a once in a decade type FA type signing. Sure they had longer stints with Griese and Plummer, but those guys never really panned out. Cutler still hasn't panned out even after he left, and he was only with Denver for 2 years. Orton started. Tebow took his job. They've been searching for a QB for a long time. They've got a band-aid, but he'll be gone soon, too. Then what?

I bet this future power rankings had Seattle as the number one team in the league after going 5-11 in 2009.

ugggh, its like peopel choose not to understand. No one cares if your players can get better. they dont decide, "hey guys we are winning this game, lets pass on 3rd and 4 and not run up the clock". Sorry but so what if your players can get better while your coach continues to suck it up on the sidelines. Its not just about one coach or the players, its everything put together. I said it last year, Dallas wnats to win last year, stop listening to Garret and play the Bleeping game". No, they are choosing to listen to a guy who comes ou tevery sunday and tells them "team, i choose to not get better, i dont hold myself accountable because if i make a mistake this week you damned well better be sure im going to make the same mistake next week, and if the game is against a heated rival, ill out smart and put in a rookie, and even if a player hasnt proven squat to me, ill play that Sob, because im going to prove to you and to this organization, i dont get better by choice, even by accident some people, get better, nah uh, not me, i will fight for my right to run you guys right into medicority and you and the fans are going to love it".

Sorry, its based on a heck of a lot more and this coach has proven to the NFL, he doesnt only NOT have it, he doesnt even want it. Chip Keey stole his lunch and ate it on teh sideline, thans pants our guy in national television, the mere fact Garrett wont tkae it upon himself to leave is offensive to me.

I understand the frustration, but I honestly believe that the aura and overall philosophy is changing in Dallas this offseason. I really believe that the team and front office will do better moving forward. With that said though, I don't know if Garrett is the best option at head coach moving forward. I think he would be an awesome GM or some other personnel department role, but I don't know if he or Jerry would go for that.

i agree, i think the team has gotten better, but i think they are better than thier head coach and id really like a head coach young enough to come in and be with this team and i would have accpeted Garrett in that role but he doesnt seem to want it. I think he likes the check i just dont see if he likes being or can be the coach.

More reasons for the Cowboys to try and prove everyone wrong. Everyone is picking them to be bad this year, even many that regularly post here. Can't blame them. But there are signs that the pendulum is on the up swing. I like the youthfulness of the team. Good coaches in place. Smart personnel decisions being made. Drafting seems to be better. So there's a lot to be excited about. As in any sport, you need a little luck with injuries, how your opponents are playing when you play them. Cowboys need to have some good luck this year.

Here's what the future power rankins predicted 2 years ago for this season said about you guys (or next depending on how you count it):

14. Dallas Cowboys

The highest score the Cowboys got was their 7 in quarterback, and their overall score was 62.06 out of 100. Their lowest marks were for draft and front office, and this is Gary Horton on their roster:

Age is a concern. And unless they do a good job in free agency and the draft, the talent level will drop off in the next couple of years. They should remain fairly young at WR and RB, and they seem to be rebuilding their offensive line. Defensively, they are not very young and their best playmaker of the future will be rookie CB Morris Claiborne, but a lot of replacements are needed.

I almost have to laugh when ESPN does something like this. Wonder what their long term outlook for the Seahawks in 2009 were like, when they had Matt Hasselbeck at QB and the offense was getting old?

Even though there's not much reason to think so now, the Cowboys could end up being one of the best teams in the league over the next few years. The point is nobody knows. And minus the Claiborne pick, Dallas has drafted pretty well since 2010 (Dez Bryant, Sean Lee, Tyron Smith, DeMarco Murray, Dwayne Harris, Tyrone Crawford, Travis Frederick, Terrance Williams, etc.).

Why does NE get a high ranking for gm? They have been pretty bad drafters.
