Familiar tune for Giants players?

The Giants' decision to bring in Simeon Rice for a tryout isn't sitting well with defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Umenyiora plays the right side, same as Rice, and he would rather have the Giants meet the demands of good friend Michael Strahan, who continues to hold out.

If these weren't the Giants, Umenyiora might raise his concerns internally, softening his public comments while the situation played out.

"I'm not going to move because Simeon Rice is coming in. I won't do it," Umenyiora said in the Newsday story when asked about switching sides. "I'm a right end and I've been successful there. I don't feel the need to move to a different position. It's ridiculous."

Besides: "We're not talking about Julius Peppers here. Simeon Rice is an outstanding pass-rusher, but that's what he is. People say he's not the best run player and people have given him that reputation for a reason."

NFL players traditionally line up where coaches ask them to line up. Umenyiora presumably would, too.

"I am not going to move to left defensive end if they sign Simeon Rice," Umenyiora said in an AP version of the story. "That's what I'm telling you. If the team asks me, 'We need you to move to left defensive end because we need you at that position,' I will. But I will not move to left defensive end because Simeon Rice is coming in.''

A few Giants players set that type of tone last season. Umenyiora's comments might be no big deal. It's early in camp and it's going to be a long season. If the Giants win games, none of it matters. If they suffer some bumps, we'll see if they handle things better this season. If nothing else, the Giants seem destined to make good copy - again.

just like the yankees, the giants are a bunch of overpaid crybabies

That is just bizarre!

I'm not going to move because they sign Rice....

But if they ask me to I will....

He is just leaving the door open because they can force him. Personally, I think it's just the door to the stupid room.

No Tiki, No Strahan and Coughlin still has no control over this team.

Im hard pressed to say who will be worse, Gints or Skins.

not including all the bs going on with the gmen, i think the giants will go 6-10 last in the nfc east

They're just trying to lull the rest of the division into a false sense of security with the old "us against us" strategy.

We see what you're up to, guys. Time to try something else.

Wouldn't moving him to LE, so Rice can play at RE, be about the team using the most successful lineups?

He sounds a lot like Ellis and his dumb *** logic....

Boy, what a "Leave it to Beaver" team guy Umenyiora is. Rice could help their pass rush. You know, people like Umenyiora never get hurt, do they?

"Golly Walley, I think having Rice would be just swell".

From what I gather from the article. He and Strahan are good friends, Rice and Strahan have been at odds for years now. His comment sounds dumb, however he is just looking out for Strahan so he can get a bigger contract. If Rice come is signed then they won't sign Strahan.
