In before 'I want this guy out of the starting lineup.' Oh, wait.
In before 'he improved so much because of Brian Waters.' Oh, wait.
In before the disparaging comparisons. Oh, wait.

In before more backtracking? I guess I'll have to go with that.

Some of you guys have been so colossally wrong about just about every aspect of what this team has been doing with it's OL the last three seasons, it's silly. Nothing but complaints while the team spent significant resources shoring up the horrible shape of the OT position, nothing but complaints about the development of Doug Free. Nothing but complaints about the FA acquisitions of the two OG prospects last season. Nothing but complaints about how long it took to sign Brian Waters last season, and mostly-nothing but lambasting the team for the drafting of Frederick for what most of you thought was a 3rd/4th round pick.

Now we get a thread that's explicitly about Mackenzy Bernardeau who, by any *reasonable* estimation was a solid FA signing who had a significant injury that compromised his camp and his early performance as a first time starter last season and who played well for us this last season--both *before* and *after* Brian Waters came into the lineup...and you still can't even manage so much as a 'my bad for those several hundred completely misguided posts I made the last two years which, as it turns out, were dead, dead wrong.'

That's fine, I guess, but it sure would be nice sometimes if all the complaining were met with--not an equivalent number of 'my bad' posts, because that would be just as tedious as the complaints were in the first place--but with so much as a single 'realist' saying 'you know what, I missed the boat on that one.' Just to know that you guys do, in fact, get it that sometimes you actually do have to wait and see how a young player adapts to a situation before you can conclusively say whether or not a signing was a good one or a bad one.

at least you are CONSISTENTLY wrong....

Come on, Idg. Did you forget where you were!?

Gonna tackle this one a little bit. CZ posters have every right to be disappointed with the team over the last 4 years. I have no issues with that, at all. The only issues I've ever had is when that disappointment becomes blatant, constant disrespect of the team and the organization. And not just popping off every now and then in irritation, I'm talking about a systematic pattern of disrespect that's something you'd see in common with fans of franchises who legitimately hate the Cowboys.

But the *disappointment* you see here at CZ, I think that's healthy and to be expected. It'd be unnatural to have a forum full of people who are nothing but happy with the current circumstances. And boring. Nobody wants that. At least, I don't. I like going back and forth with people who don't agree with me.

Now, on the topic of the OL, though, there are a lot of people who posted an awful lot of blatant disrespect for this coach and this organization who have subsequently been proven wrong this season. As I said in my initial post, I have no illusions they're going to fess up and be sincere about their analysis being so off. We've already seen that's not going to happen. In fact, the smartest of them have already moved off of the OL topic and onto their backup point of contention (DL) and are not looking back. It's a never-ending cycle of complaining that the next obvious target to get addressed wasn't addressed quickly enough (in this case, without regard to cap and the very real draft pick limitations. That's fine, because that's the way it is on message boards, but it's not going to stop me from pointing out the obvious when it happens.

And, kudos, by the way, to Garrett and Callahan for what finally looks like a mostly-successful OL rebuilding project. We're lucky to have it. Here's to hoping this season's DL job is more successful yet, and we can get some benefit from it in a single off season.

The entire OL did a great job this year, IMO. The reason the 'gems' are hidden is because Callahan and Garrett hid them. Abandoned the run at every turn.

This season was complete frustration in being shackled by a friggin coaching staff. Offensively, Dallas has the athletes to more than get the job done.

Ineptitude at it's finest. We're smarter than the inventor of football...............I can't get this wasted football season out of my head.

Great point! If these guys (o-line) had any confidence at all about running the football they did not get any help from the coaching staff as far as play calling. For all we know, they could be a great running team.

I hope there is a new commitment to running the football this year.

when you basically ignore a problem coming for years you earn blatant disrespect. When you try and use types like Costa to get by and then spend ridiculous amounts elsewhere you earn blatant disrespect.

When you allow your franchise QB to get worked for several years you earn blatant disrespect.

No, you don't. There's no call for it.

You're also misrepresenting what the team did to address the problem those years, still. Even though it's evident that it worked despite not having extra picks or a lot of cap room.

Don't forget, you guys who are complaining so much about not having sufficient room to fix the DL this offseason were the exact same group who wanted to spend $65M (!) on a right guard two seasons ago and who were very, loudly, repeatedly unhappy with the signing of Bernadeau.

The 2012 OL was pretty bad but it was actually very improved over the last month when we found a way to lose out of the playoffs.

Where we do agree is that fans are largely dumb and get tunnel vision.
After three years of screaming about the OL they ignored that the RT position was vastly improved, Tyron Smith was coming on and Bern played well that final month.

We still RIGHT now have endless threads where people want OL to be a MAJOR focus of the draft and off-season plan.
Those people are clueless as to the talent on our roster and should take up Madden as means for enlightenment.
Yes, they are so far off-base even Madden will help.

I find it amazing there are people that now discount the commentary of others.

So when I say things like the line will be poor, and I did, I am told my intent was to come back and say I told you so.

I did not do that and now there are people wanting to rewrite history and with a wave of a hand toss out all the complaints some of us have had.

I know RS was there making the same comments.

And the OL need attention, regardless of the strides made. You see the idea is to become a powerhouse and not just a middle of the road team. There are days this team cannot generate a push.

Now to you last month comment about the line, who did we play during that last month that was in the top ten in stopping the run?

Your belittling others who wish to i,prove the line was funny, if it were not a complete load of crap. While the line is playing better, there is no indication it is a top 7 line in the league, and will never be with Mac and Free involved.

If you've seen legitimate disappointment, point it out for me, because all I've ever seen is the blatant disrespect (and pillar to post stupidity) that you speak of. Like yourself, I've got no problem with smart, fact-based, logical disappointment and criticism. But that **** is like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, or a unicorn. Fairy tales.

I also agree 100% with your last paragraph. And I will go on the record and say that yes, we will see that same improvement on the defensive line. We have the right people working together on this stuff now.

While splooging over Fred is popular he was horrid in picking up middle blitzes and stunts most of the year. He improved but this notion that he was a rock in the middle in pass pro is misleading. In the run game, he was good to dominant for the season.

That being said, watching Smith execute reach blocks on the 3T time and again was a marvel of athleticism.
