#96 Marcus R. Spears | DE
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 70 | Key
Alert: Y
Comment: Spears is very strong and surprisingly athletic for his size. He appears to have unlimited upside. He already is a capable run-stopper in a two-gap read-and-react scheme, but he also moves laterally and changes directions well for a big guy. He is powerful at the point of attack and excels at stacking in the hole. He has enough size to move inside and play tackle in a 4-3 scheme. He has a nice short burst on the pass rush. He is a powerful bull rusher. But Spears lacks ideal edge speed in a 4-3, and he needs more experience and overall refinement. His pass-rush technique needs work. He needs to develop an arsenal of moves. His leverage and knee bend could be better. He can play with good awareness and locate the ball quickly, but he is somewhat inconsistent. He can get a little upright searching for the ball...
