#41 Terence Newman | CB DALLAS COWBOYS

Full Name: Terence Newman
Born: September 4, 1978
Salina, KS
Height: 5-11
Weight: 195 lbs.
Age: 29
Pos: CB
Experience: 5 years
College: Kansas State
Drafted: Year:2003 Round:1 Pick:5, Cowboys

2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 79 | Key
Alert: None

Comment: Newman has excellent speed, burst and athleticism. He has a second gear to close on the ball and is very smooth in transition. He has fluid hips and great recovery skills. He is a prototype turn-and-run corner who has the ability to shut down No. 1 receivers. His consistency and confidence have improved in recent years. He challenges receivers and trusts his makeup speed. He has a smooth, quick plant-and-drive and closes on the ball faster than most corners. He has good ball skills and can contribute on punt returns. Newman isn't big or physical, especially against the run. He is a somewhat inconsistent open-field tackler, despite his athleticism. His technique can be a little sloppy. He sometimes relies too heavily on his tools, taking false steps or making mistakes. His durability is a little questionable.

Who did this? He missed his first game THIS year. Where do they get this "His durability is a little questionable." garbage? Also, where do they get that his tackling is questionable? He is one of the better open field tacklers on the team! Sometimes this crap is baffling.

No way should Hall be in the top 10, much less in front of TNew.

He is burnt toast!

I know the first game he missed this year is also the first game he has missed since he was drafted. ESPN strikes again.

And Hall above Newman, good one.

Nothing against Doctor32 -- thanks for posting it, Doc -- but this is another example of Scouts Inc.'s incompetence, which is pretty much boundless.

You can tell when you read these that half their evaluation is carried over from the college scouting they did on these guys for the draft, because there will be these artifacts that have been proven false in the pros. I guarantee you the "durability" knock is simply because Newman is skinny, which he definitely was coming out of college.

Funny, a couple weeks ago Clayton was talking on 103.3 about how last year was Newman's best year by far and how he was pretty average to poor in 2004 and 2005. The truth is that 2005, the no-TD year, was his best year without question.

I just can't wait for Newman to get a chance to play in this new way of thinking where it's okay to go for INTs even if you might get beat sometimes. That'll take away some of the talk that he never makes a play.

Newman is a better tackler than tons of CB's in my opinion, I don't see where they got that from.

the Raiders CB (Asmong- I think) will be a free agent according to Sporting News and some scouts believe he is the 2nd best CB in the league. What do you guys think about signing him next year? Sporting News reported that he will command big money-like Champ Baily type. I don't know if he is worth it. Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

Jerry isn't afraid to pay a great player, we all know that, but he is also going to have to resign Newman in a year or two, and we all know that will be expensive.

He was drafted at the age of 25 I believe. This is his 5th season.

Anyone that puts hall in the top 10 is totally incompetent and should be ignored.
