ESPN: Is Cowboys' season too far gone for Tony Romo to save?

You'd have to look at the tape to see. My guess is both Weeden and Cassel are missing their presnap reads a lot and not seeing wide open receivers. Neither are capable on a consistent basis of throwing into tight windows without INTs. We've lost winnable games due to INTs. The lack of TOs creates longer drives, more scoring chances for the opposing team, and more offensive drives period. Hence the anemic offense.

All this puts too much pressure on a defense that is designed to rotate. They give out of gas. Lack of pressure puts too much pressure on the DBs.

It's all cumulative and all adds up. Throw in bad luck, some questionable play calling and poor game management and voila. Those are the reasons not excuses.

cant argue with it. just makes it more depressing. And the sad part is, Dallas has played better til the end. Something has got to give tho.

You'd think. I can tell you why I think we're losing but you'd still think we'd have even backed into a couple of wins. Jeez Louise.

Hey, if the Giants can win a Super Bowl after finishing 9-7, why can't the Cowboys??

I'm kidding, of course. I honestly see a 7-9 finish now, assuming Romo is indeed the only answer to the offensive woes.

Bingo. Enough to lose a great draft pick and miss the playoffs.

its the same offense, and an upgraded defense....so come again? It is better.

Almost every unit has taken steps back this year. So I don't get how you come to that conclusion.

Tony Romo alone can't save the Cowboys. This team as a team is ****. They don't find ways to win. They find ways to lose. Inept. That describes the Cowboys.

It seems like we found a way to win in week 1 despite being down and out with under 2 minutes to play. It seems like we found a way to win in week 2 on the road vs. a division rival who was supposed to be the class of the division even AFTER losing our #1 WR.

The offense is putrid without Tony. Period. Two of the past 3 losses the defense has given up 13 and 10 points and even did their part in forcing 2 turnovers this past Sunday vs. TB. You can't continually go three and out and expect the defense to stand up and keep making plays (ask Chip Kelly how well that works out).

Tony can save this team, but not simply by throwing the ball. He can save this season by moving the ball consistently, putting the offense in the best possible play to succeed, keeping our defense off the field to rest and keeping the opposing defense honest for the entire 4 qtrs of the game. It seems as though some of us have forgotten Football 101 here. It's not just about Tony Romo the passer, it's about Tony Romo the Quarterback and the Leader. That's what he does better than anything else at this stage of his career.

The difference with Romo is going to be significant.

First off, we will be better in the red zone. We won't be settling for FG's every freaking time we get down there.

We will get more big plays....Romo is head and shoulders above either of the guys we have had playing QB at seeing the field, finding the open receiver and getting the ball to them.

If we get the ball last, I think we win games. Tony has shown he can score in the 4th no matter what else has gone on. If our defense has to hold the other team on the last drive, I have absolutely no faith in their ability to do so.

We have a very tough schedule....the Commanders twice and they have been competitive in most every game. THe undefeated Panthers. The Packers are having their issues right now but are no gimmes. Buffalo and NY both run the ball and have tough defenses. Heck, the Dolphins game is probably the easiest one we have left.

Given this, it is hard to see 7 and 0. I'd say 4-3 most likely. Maybe an outside chance at 5-2.

Winner of this division is 9-7 at best, at worst 7-9. Either way it's a tall order to reach either. If Romo comes back and plays outstanding 8-8 will be close to miraculous. I just can't see anything better than that. 8 weeks off is a lot of rust to shake off and at this point there is no room for error. As a serious homer I will hope and hope but we are asking for a miracle.

I rather sit Tony out the entire year and call it a day. Then the FO should reassess why this entire season went downhill real fast.

Ask the hard questions like any real business would.

Should we have tried to resign Murray? YES

If we didn't resign Murray should we get a viable replacement? YES

Should we have gone with Randle as the main ball carrier and switch to an RBBC system? NO

Should we have promoted Callahan to official playcaller rather than bring in Linehan here? YES

Should we have brought in other RBs to compete for the position? YES

Should we have signed Hardy? YES. I would have signed him then. But now I I think I was wrong.

Should we have signed Ty Crawford? NO. Well I would have waited after this season. There were other better prospects out there.

Should we fire Garrett? YES. At this moment I would go in on another direction as headcoach.

Anyways, I don't want another 8-8 season or something close to it. Just call it this year and let bygones be bygones.
