OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Rich Bisaccia made a reference to the snaps of fourth-team quarterback Jameill Showers.

"Typically you don't ask a quarterback to do some of the things we've asked him to do, but he's a really athletic guy," coach Jason Garrett said of Jameill Showers.

"He makes a joke, 'I'll get you some reps on special teams,'" Showers said. "The next thing two weeks later I'm really on special teams. I don't mind it though."'

In a the-more-you-can-do world that is an NFL training camp, Showers is attempting to make the Cowboys take notice with more than just his arm. As the fourth quarterback behind Tony Romo, Brandon Weeden and Dustin Vaughan, Showers chances of making the Cowboys roster as a quarterback are slim.

So he's getting looks on the punt and kickoff teams.

I think this is the first time I've seen a player from my school (UTEP) play for the Cowboys, it's kind of cool. He did a decent job, often showed inconsistent accuracy but if he can show some versatility maybe he'll have a chance to get on the practice squad...most likely not.

The PS is his only real chance
To me Vaughn needs to show much more if he is going to be worth a roster spot himself
Not overly impressed so far with any of our qb's once you get past Tony

I'm hoping we get to give Alex Villareal from UtEP a try out next year.

I'm torn on how much Vaughan would have to show. I almost would keep him over Weeden even if he's not as good. I hate having 3 QBs taking up roster spots, and we're not really in a position where we can have a middling veteran taking up space. I'd rather have a guy we can develop.

Though, I guess if Vaughan can't beat out Weeden he'd probably make it to our PS, anyway, if we wanted him. We really need more talent in that position group, overall.

You must be very young; Tony Tolbert was from UTEP, if I'm not mistaken.

It's a position the Cowboys have to take risk on. I'm hoping Vaughn reacts better under game lights. With what parcels said about romo, romo wasn't afraid to let it all hang out....parcels termed it "leave the reservation"....Vaughn can't play tight, coaches have to accept growing pains as he progresses

I think Vaughn needs to show he has improved over last year
I don't expect him to be game ready but to me it's about him growing as a QB
If he is the same QB as he was in the last camp then i would rather use that roster spot for someone who may improve as a player
