He played poorly. I'd say horrible is an overstatement. It was an awful miss on his extension, though. Ratliff's most recent extension and Marion Barber's were both pretty bad, though, too, relative to their positions and the team's bargaining position for each.

Free got what was the market value at the time -- he had played very well leading up to that deal. He picked the right time to have a good year playing LT.

It didn't work out, but it is hard to say it was a bad decision. It was a good decision with a bad outcome.

The echo chamber on Winston is hilarious. Not sure when he became the same player as Free. Early reports suggested that he was the best tackle available in free agency.

He wants one year for $3 million. That's it. And no one is offering.

His two former teams do not want him either.

I'd rather play Parnell and go get Moore to play guard.

We are on the hook for him at 6 Million regardless of his presence on the team or not and that can only be spread out over 2 years if he is a June 1st cut. Otherwise, it's all 6 accelerated and we can't take that hit no matter what the course of action is. That's why Jerry is so gun ho to keep Free on the team. He knows he can't afford to sustain that dead cap space and sign a decent replacement.

I think the Cowboys would love to sign Clabo to a one year deal, then draft a RT next year to play cheap while they absorb the $7 million hit from Free's deal.

But Clabo surely doesn't want a one-year deal.

So it might be a matter of signing Winston as a swing tackle for cheap and releasing Free. I don't think they mind playing Parnell at all.

Winstrom actually played pretty good for the Chiefs last year. They let him go because they franchised their LT Albert and drafted Fisher with the #1 pick. So they decided Winstrom's contract was too pricey for them.


My point is that he was not cut due to performance, he did not suck like Free, he was a cap casualty and the Cheifs wanted to go younger at the position.

Broaddus has come out that Winston isn't any better. Winston definitely has his warts with a lot of penalties. And I also don't think teams like his run blocking unless it's in a pure ZBS system.

Sure -- but all deals for guys who are sitting on the market are basically one year deals anyway. this isn't about length, it is about bonus.

Agree that Free is not the worst. People forget the circumstances. Free was coming off a good year and had us over a barrel because we didn't have anyone to replace him. We had to pay him.

Barber is a different story. What kind of team spends a first rounder on a rB and still signs the current one to a $45m deal?

I only fault the Cowboys for not finding out earlier what they did or didn't have there. They had to make a big decision on his extension without enough available evidence.

I'd have extended him, too. I actually think it was the right decision. But it ended up being a painful miss for us.
