IRVING, Texas -- One of the reasons cited when the Dallas Cowboys decided to fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan after last season was that he tried to do too much. In addition to a scheme switch, the Cowboys wanted a more simplistic approach and went to Monte Kiffin. But are they too simple? The Cowboys are one of a few teams that do not employ a dime defense -- six defensive backs -- and perhaps it’s hurt them the last two games in which San Diego’s Philip Rivers and Denver’s Peyton Manning threw for more than 400 yards.
