The Undefeated, ESPN’s new site featuring sports stories and other content from an African American perspective, launched Tuesday.

Dubbed "the Black Grantland" – a reference to the defunct ESPN-owned sports commentary site once run by sports journalist Bill Simmons – the network’s long-awaited digital-storytelling venture had been plagued by management turbulence before it sought to reboot with a new editor-in-chief, Kevin Merida, the former managing editor of The Washington Post.

The Undefeated’s launch date was chosen to coincide with the 62nd anniversary of the Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision, which declared separate schools for black and white students unconstitutional.

Ugh. Sports doesn't need this.

A personal opinion. Sports, to me, has always been a place where only the sport mattered.
Well.....more so now. It's definitely better. It's definitely recent history where "things" mattered to blacks around the sports world that were difficult. Like in football, the necessity of the Rooney rule, or the stigma about black QBs. There's some conversation that could be had about why Cam Newton should not be a whiner, and some more interesting but difficult topics to talk about.

That's true dogunwo but I'm really just talking about my experience with sports and I never played any type of professional anything. I'm just saying that 100 years ago, when I was fortunate enough to be able to play sports, it was nothing about color or whatever else. It was really just a bunch of guys who were pulling on the same rope. There were always clicks in the locker room and there were always disagreements on the teams but end of day, if we lost, that sucked and if we won, that was great and thats about it. Very simplistic, I know but that was what was great about it. JMO.

IMO this is more about different cultures going to different places for the same information. I mean, I get different versions based on language. (ESPN Deportes) Some people just don't speak English and they should be able to have a venue where they understand what is being talked about.

This is pointless and segregationist. This is literally IMO going back to the all bus / water fountain / school racist issues of the past. An entirely different venue for "other people" that a single venue works perfectly fine for. While there are still issues that exist, today it's far better than it was in the 50s/60s. Why is hell would anyone except a racist want to return to that complete bull****?

I vehemently disagree with this for many reasons, but I will just leave it there. Thanks for the reply.

Guys, at the risk of coming across a bit heavy handed here, lets please keep in mind that this issue has the potential to go off the rails quick. Please, lets make sure that we steer clear of discussion that will send this thread to the locked liquor cabinet. I think this is a good topic but lets be mindful please.

Thank you.
