11:12 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): It's about 60 degrees and cloudy here in Oxnard. The weather is great, but the set-up doesn't quite match the Alamodome from a live chatting perspective.

No press box here, just picnic tables with an obscured view, so I'll have to hit the sidelines when the action gets going. We'll tweet in updates, but they won't be as rapid-fire as they were in San Antonio. We'll try to hit all the highlights.

We'll chat until the action gets going.

Is Romo going to be out there today with his back sore?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:12 Andrew
11:13 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): It's just special teams work right now. We expect Romo to practice. We'll keep a close eye on him to see whether it appears that his back is bothering him.

Is kevin ogletree in jeopardy of losing his roster spot?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:13 amw
11:14 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I don't believe so. However, he is very much in danger of being inactive on game days. He needs to have a fire lit under his butt soon. The Cowboys still like his potential, but nobody is pleased with his performance so far this summer.

Does DB Bryan MCcann have a shot of making the team?

11:16 calvinwatkins: Cletis Gordon is on the practice fields today. [via Twitter]

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:16 calvinwatkins
11:16 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): He's on the bubble. It might come down to whether the Cowboys keep four or five corners. Cletis Gordon has a pretty firm grip on the fourth corner job. Bryan McCann and sixth-round pick Jamar Wall are competing for the fifth spot, if there is one. Of course, that could change if a rookie really comes on and/or Gordon struggles to come back from his neck injury.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:16 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:16 BryanBroaddus: Josh Brent is working in the deep wedge on the kick off return, might be a sign that he is truly in the plans of making this roster. [via Twitter]

Teddy williams should make this team. Do you think he has what it takes to be db or would he be better a wr

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:17 Outlaw
11:19 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Why should Teddy Williams make this team? He has two weeks of football experience since high school. He's playing for a spot on the practice squad. I understand why the Cowboys want him at corner. His speed/size combo is very intriguing.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:19 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:19 [Comment From D. Wingo (Irving)D. Wingo (Irving): ]
The entire OL is concerning me. How do you think things will shake up during the season for this group and will they be able to turn it around? Seems like everything else in place if we can get good play from our OL we should have a GREAT season.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:19 D. Wingo (Irving)
11:20 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Doug Free is actually the least of my concerns on the offensive line. I seriously wonder whether Marc Colombo has hit the downside of his career. At least you know he'll brawl, but his performance against the Raiders wasn't good. Andre Gurode and Leonard Davis need to play to their reputations this year. An injury to any interior lineman would be scary. Tough to trust Montrae Holland.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:20 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:21 [Comment From JasonJason: ]
Could a reason for lack of red zone production, be because of not wanting to show to much before the regular season?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:21 Jason
11:21 calvinwatkins: No Martellus Bennett today. [via Twitter]

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:21 calvinwatkins
11:22 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): That's part of it, but the Cowboys don't need to be making excuses. Donovan McNabb and the Commanders managed to finish their drive last night. The red zone was a problem for the Cowboys last season, and nothing we've seen in the preseason indicates that they've solved it. No need to panic, but concern is justified.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:22 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:22 [Comment From Mike NCMike NC: ]
Good Morning Gentlemen...glad to see the team move on to the Oxnard phase of camp. Hopefully an atmosphere with cooler temps will foster focus and continued team unity and growth. Here's my question...in your opinion, is the red zone failures to this point more poor execution or faulty play calling in the PS games thus far?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:22 Mike NC
11:22 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): There's plenty of blame to go around. But it does make me cringe every time the Cowboys go to the shotgun on first-and-goal inside the 5.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:22 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:23 [Comment From AaronAaron: ]
Alex Barron is not at all impressive any chance we get a better swing tackle because colombo looked like he was getting worked against the Faders on thursday

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:23 Aaron
11:23 calvinwatkins: Dez Bryant walks out to the practice field with no walking boot. He has tape just above his right ankle. He's walking with no limp. [via Twitter]

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:23 calvinwatkins
11:23 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): You think there's a better tackle on the open market than Barron right now? He's a former first-round pick with five seasons of starting experience. Not saying he's a Pro Bowler or anything, but he's a solid swing tackle.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:23 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:24 [Comment From LexLex: ]
I was concerned about the safety and kicker postions before camp. From what i have seen in the 2 games played those worries are gone for me. I have a much bigger worry about the offensive line now though. If the starters give up 3 sacks on a drive in pre season it does not look good. I have a feeling the O LINE is just to old and slow. If they are struggling now what happens say in week 12 or 13 when they are making a push for the Playoffs. THOUGHTS?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:24 Lex
11:25 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Agree on safeties. Think David Buehler has to prove himself throughout the preseason, but 6-of-7 ain't bad. The offensive line's age is definitely an issue.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:25 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:25 [Comment From ChettiblingChettibling: ]
I have serious doubts if Colombo can make it through a 16 game season. He looks overweight, slow, out of shape and the Cowboys have no true backup at RT because the Brewster experiment is failing. Alex Barron has the strength of a 2 year old girl and Sam Young is a rookie who could develop down the road, but right now, RT has to be a glaring weakness on this team. Should have released Colombo, moved Flozell to RT and Free at LT. It always comes down to money doesn't it?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:25 Chettibling
11:26 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Yikes. I wouldn't count out Colombo. He's never been pretty.

11:26 [Comment From Mark in HoustonMark in Houston: ]
Once again, Broaddus' analysis is amazing. Can I be the first to tell everyone to relax? It's the preseason. Of COURSE we have things to work on. As Wade says, "We don't even have a team, yet." Everyone expects us to be in playoff form. Your thoughts, Tim?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:26 Mark in Houston
11:26 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Injuries are the only reason to push the panic button during the preseason.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:26 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:26 [Comment From CowboyPeteCowboyPete: ]
Do Jerry and Stephen Jones work with the pro personnel department to constantly look for ways to improve our depth or is it only when crap hits the fan like in the case of John Phillips.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:26 CowboyPete
11:27 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): It's a constant thing. They have contingency plans for every position and are always willing to upgrade the bottom of the roster.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:27 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:28 [Comment From Josh TJosh T: ]
The Cowboys offense has been top 5-top 10 in the league the last couple of years. Why all the sudden everyone worried about them?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:28 Josh T
11:28 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): They were second in total offense last season, but they were 14th in the category that really matters: points. That's a concern, and they haven't done anything to hush talk about it through two TD-less preseason games.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:28 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

Do we have a breakout star of camp, so far?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:29 Mark in Houston
11:29 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Doug Free.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:29 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:30 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Stretching is over. The offense is running plays vs. air. The defense is doing position drills.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:30 calvinwatkins
11:31 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): They're comfortable with Kitna as the backup. Would they worry if he had to start several games? Of course. But that's the case with the vast majority of backups in the league.

11:31 [Comment From BradBrad: ]
How is Alan Ball looking so far in camp and in preseason games?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:31 Brad
11:32 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Ball had a very good camp in San Antonio and played well in the two games so far. He's locked up the starting job. Only question in my mind about him is whether he can be durable enough to play every down for 16 games plus playoffs.

Should robert brewster be playing guard? He seems to be struggling at tackle

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:33 amw
11:33 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I wouldn't be surprised at all if Brewster gets moved to guard soon, perhaps after final cuts.

11:34 [Comment From Mike NCMike NC: ]
With Logan Mankins having contractual issues in NE, and their need for DL help...what would it take to make a trade? I know, slim to no chance, but Mankins is a smart, young and versatile player. Plus Kraft and Jerry have a history.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:34 Mike NC
11:34 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): No idea what the Patriots would want, but I assume a premium pick would have to be included. And then the Cowboys would have to give Mankins a Leonard Davis-like contract. Don't hold your breath for this to happen.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:34 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:34 [Comment From TonyTony: ]
The Cowboys are showing good depth from their young linebackers. Is this young group good or is it just pre season flash in a pan.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:34 Tony
11:35 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I think it's a good young group. The best of the young bunch of backups is Sean Lee, who hasn't played a preseason down.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:35 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:36 [Comment From GuestGuest: ]
What's the plan at running back? The two preseason games have showed Marion Barber and Felix Jones doing a 50/50 split. Wich back will start week1 and who do you think will have a more productive season?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:36 Guest
11:36 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I think Barber will start but Jones will end up getting more carries and being more productive.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:36 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:37 [Comment From BoBo: ]
very painful losing Phillips...Is Sicko a lock as third t.end?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:37 Bo
11:37 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Not at all. They might keep Chris Gronkowski as an H-back instead. They might get a better tight end off waivers.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:37 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:37 [Comment From ChuckChuck: ]
Tim, I partially agree with you on wondering why Garrett insists on going shotgun inside the red zone, but I remember the Jaguars used to do it with good results with their trio (Brunell, Smith and Taylor). However, they would spread the field and run Taylor up the middle (fade pass to J. Smith worked well, too). Are the egos of coaches too big to go back and look at other teams film to get good ideas? Seems like Garrett is too full of himself to do so.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:37 Chuck
11:38 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): No, that's not a problem. Garrett studies a lot of other teams. You can point to the Saints and Colts as teams that have success with the shotgun on goal-to-go situations. I just don't like it for a team with a massive offensive line. It basically eliminates the power running game and play-action pass.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:38 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:39 [Comment From April-El PasoApril-El Paso: ]
Why has Mike Jenkins not been used in the return game like he was used in college?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:39 April-El Paso
11:39 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): He's too valuable as a cornerback.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:39 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:39 [Comment From TylerTyler: ]
Buehler is 6 for 7 i know... but he ALMOST missed a 27 yarder... do you think Matt Stover is on speed dial?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:39 Tyler
11:40 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Not speed dial, but they know his number. Same with John Carney. However, the coaches and front office really want Buehler to be the man. They want to have only one kicker on the roster.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:40 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:40 [Comment From IZZYIZZY: ]
Speaking of which? i was looking for Lee during the last game? What gives? Are we sand baging?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:40 IZZY
11:41 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): They're being very cautious with Lee. They say his knowledge of the scheme is good, so him missing preseason games isn't a huge concern, but it definitely doesn't help his development.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:41 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:41 [Comment From GarrettGarrett: ]
Tim is there a big crowd there?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:41 Garrett
11:42 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): The bleachers are packed and folks are lining the fences. But they don't get crowds here near the size of the ones at the Alamodome. There just isn't enough room.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:42 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

Any word on how Gronkowski played against Oakland?

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:42 Chettibling
11:42 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Per Broaddus, he was just OK. Gronkowski played better in the Hall of Fame Game.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:42 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
11:43 [Comment From KevinKevin: ]
Do you think Dez or Roy will have the better season? Not so much stat wise, but for the team.

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:43 Kevin
11:43 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): If Dez Bryant gets and stays healthy, I expect him to be more productive than Roy Williams. Bryant is a much better talent, plain and simple.

I believe Dallas' plan is to change one offensive lineman A year until they get younger. Is Colombo next

Saturday August 14, 2010 11:58 Cowboys Fan
11:59 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): That all depends on the way things fall in the draft. I think they'll pick at least one lineman in the first three rounds, but I don't see them locking themselves into a certain position. Guard might be a bigger priority than tackle anyway. Kyle Kosier is in the last year of his contract.

How do you think the new TE Farr performed on Thursday night? Does he have a shot to make the roster?

Saturday August 14, 2010 12:12 JJ
12:14 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Well, he looked pretty good on the corner route. Not bad at all overall, considering he was signed two days earlier. He's a good athlete who wasn't productive in college. I'd be surprised if he made the roster, but we'll see what happens. He's bigger and a better athlete than Scott Sicko, but Sicko is a better receiver.

12:14 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Yes. Joe DeCamillis works on pretty much every special teams scenario you can imagine and a lot you never would have thought of.

The Cowboys website is reporting that Jerry said before practice today that Dez may now return for the final two preseason games. Is Jerry just being overly optimistic as usual?

12:16 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): That's the same optimism Jerry had the day after Dez Bryant suffered the high ankle sprain. Things are progressing as expected, so Jerry remains optimistic. I'd be surprised if Bryant played two preseason games, though.

12:18 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Practice is over. What a thrilling morning it was. Hopefully we'll get some action this afternoon.

Someone let MacMahon know it's just "cord." They're not out there playing instruments.

So is anyone gaining a little more confidence in Buehler or is 1 foot still off the ledge?

Good stuff. Some fans are just :bang2:

Some good question mixed in with dumb ones. Of course we get to see the same Chicken Littles we see here...

One time, at band camp......

BryanBroaddus: Just witnessed Dez Bryant jumping up in the air to catch a pass from Austin. Came down on the ankle fine. Pain might be gone.
