How does Barber look?? I read he shed some weight and is in the best shape of his career

Sunday July 25, 2010 9:00 Donnie Coleman
9:01 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Marion Barber has dropped about 10 pounds since the end of last season. He does look like he has some more burst. But Barber looked good at the beginning of the last two seasons. Then he got banged up and was just a guy.

How are the Cowboys planning to provide more protection for Tony Romo?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:02 Tim

9:03 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): They have options as far as using tight ends and backs as extra protectors. But a lot of it just comes down to the offensive line doing its job. Leonard Davis has to be better. Doug Free, who is a better athlete but not as powerful as Flozell Adams, has to be up to the task.

do you really see M. Hamlin having a chance to unseat A. Ball? or is this just camp hype?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:04 austin
9:05 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): We've made it clear that Alan Ball is the frontrunner. Mike Hamlin will have to be really impressive to win the job. But it's very possible that Hamlin will play in the dime package with Ball moving to the slot.

Who will have the better day The 2011 F-250 or the 2004 Navigator?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:05 Nick
9:06 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): The 2011 F-250. The '04 Navigator's problem isn't the miles. It never was a great ride.

Hey guys, take a guess at the Top 5 jersey sales for the Cowboys this year. My guess would be, Romo, Bryant, Ware, Witten, Austin
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:06 Dustin
9:06 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I'd agree with that.

Sunday July 25, 2010 9:06 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
9:06 [Comment From Tim DoneyTim Doney: ]
How many kickers are in camp ? And are they looking for a solid kicker

Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): One and a half. Wade Phillips made a point yesterday to mention that Delbert Alvarado, a rookie from South Florida, is a punter and a kicker. Really, though, he's a camp leg who has no chance to challenge David Buehler. If Buehler doesn't reward the confidence from the front office and coaching staff during the preseason, they'll go get a veteran kicker.

How do the Cowboys plan to replace me?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:08 Bobby #54

9:09 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): With the 55th overall pick in the second round, the Dallas Cowboys select .... Sean Lee. He's Carpenter's replacement and is expected to be a significant upgrade.

9:10 [Comment From Kenbob Kenbob: ]
Is it looking like Felix will ultimately be the guy this year or is Barber still getting the bulk of the carries so far?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:10 Kenbob

9:10 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): All indications are that Barber will continue to start. He's always gets the first reps with the starting offense. But I firmly believe that, as long as Jones stays healthy, he'll get the most carries this season.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:10 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:11 [Comment From Kenbob Kenbob: ]
How has Buehler looked so far from 40 or more?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:11 Kenbob

9:11 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): He made an extra point and a field goal from about 25 yards yesterday. That was the only kicks he attempted.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:11 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:12 [Comment From Kyle (Columbus, Ohio) Kyle (Columbus, Ohio): ]
What role can Jason Williams carve out for himself after being a non-factor in year 1?

Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): He's competing with Lee to be the nickel linebacker. It's possible they could both play in that package. Williams at least needs to be a significant factor on special teams, which didn't happen his rookie season.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:12 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:14 [Comment From Jimmy Jimmy: ]
Do you really think they will get rid of deon anderson? he is one of the most physical fullbacks in the league, and the Cowboys simply aren't as effective running the ball when he isn't in the game, let alone releasing him outright...
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:14 Jimmy

9:14 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): No, I don't think they'll release Deon Anderson, but it's possible they could decide to keep an extra tight end (Sicko) instead. And let me do some quick research to prove your point wrong. Be right back.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:14 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

Lorenzo Washington have a chance at the roster? 3-4 DE from a championship team sounds like a player worth considering
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:21 AMW

9:22 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): He's probably a practice squad candidate at best, especially with him starting camp on the PUP with a hamstring injury. The Cowboys have great depth at defensive end. Marcus Dixon and Sean Lissemore are ahead of Washington, but it's likely neither of those two guys will make the team.

Sunday July 25, 2010 9:23 calvinwatkins

Note, Ive got to get ready for church, so hopefully woodysgirl can take over here for you zoners.

Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): That's largely up to him. If he continues to progress, his role could be expanded from last season. He could end up as the fourth WR and catch around 20 balls. If he doesn't show progress, he'll be the fifth WR and might be inactive on game days.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:24 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:24 [Comment From shep shep: ]
give me the strenghts of mike hamlin's game
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:24 shep

9:26 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): He's a playmaker. He set a school record at Clemson with 14 career interceptions. He has a knack for getting to the ball and good hands. He has good size for a safety and has basketball-like athleticism. He made a pick during training camp last year that was extremely impressive -- dropping from the dime backer spot and leaping to tip a ball thrown to a receiver 10 yards behind him, then catching the rebound after he landed on his back.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:26 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

Coaching Question: I realize they are Linebackers, but who spends more time coaching the OLBs? Herring or Pasqualoni?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:27 Chris

Which side of the ball has the most realistic shot of being in the top 5 in the league this year, offense or defense...and why?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:27 Kyle (Columbus, Ohio)

9:28 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I think it's realistic for both sides of the ball. They both ranked top five in important categories last season -- points for defense, yards for offense.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:28 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:29 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Stretching is over. Offense is running plays vs. air. Defense is doing position drills. I'll keep chatting until the competition gets going.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:29 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:29 [Comment From Kenbob Kenbob: ]
How much of the offense has Dez been given? Has he only been given special packages?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:29 Kenbob

9:30 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): They're trying to teach Dez the entire offense at the X position, an outside receiver spot. They are simplifying it by asking him to just learn that one position, so you probably won't see him play in the slot this season.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:30 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:30 [Comment From Andrew Andrew: ]
Is Romo going to get more time with Dez today than he did yesterday? Maybe some 3WR sets?
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:30 Andrew

9:31 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): They got a significant amount of time yesterday. Romo took several reps with the second-team receivers. I assume that was to get him work with Dez. They are going through three-WR stuff right now, so I assume we'll see that during 7-on-7 and team drills.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:31 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:31 [Comment From Kyle (Columbus, Ohio) Kyle (Columbus, Ohio): ]

Sunday July 25, 2010 9:31 BryanBroaddus

9:32 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): I turned to Broaddus for this one. His answer: I love him. He's one of my top-five players of all-time. I'd like to think that he could be. He's a Super Bowl champion, played in several Pro Bowls, but I don't know. Safety is a hard deal.
Sunday July 25, 2010 9:32 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)

9:33 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Me weighing in on Woody: I think he deserves it, but it sure would help his case if Jerry put him in the Ring of Honor. That won't happen this season for Woodson or anybody else.

In the 3 Wide set, Austin plays the slot which will be a nightmare for defensive coordinators because Garrett can move him all over. [via Twitter]

Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): You're guaranteed a good seat if you get here about an hour before practice. I'd try to sit toward near the 50, midway or higher in the first level. You can see everything from there, which is why I park on the 50 in the press box. But if you want autographs, your best bet other than a VIP pass is the front row behind the end zone.

I'm not ready to plan a parade route. I think we have holes at both tackle positions. Columbo's performance was the worst of the lineman against the vikings and Its too late to bring in someone of quality for 2010. Why did the Cowboys not address this?

First snap: Romo to Roy Williams on a go route. Scandrick had pretty good coverage on the incompletion. ... Working out of 3-WR set, Dez gets great separation from Cletis Gordon on an intermediate crossing route. Romo hits him in stride and Dez had room to run after catch.

Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas):
Kitna eats the ball. Good coverage downfield. Jenkins was step for step with Dez on a crossing route. Newman blanketed Crayton on a vertical route. ... Quick screen to Dez, who makes Newman miss and would have gained at least 15. And I don't like Alan Ball's odds of making the tackle with Bryant having a full head of steam.

Dez needs to be the #2 day 1.

9:47 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Wade Phillips says he's in the mix with Michael Hamlin to challenge Ball, but I don't really believe it. Watkins is a special teamer who has proven he isn't consistent enough at safety for the Cowboys to rely on him. There's a decent chance he'll be cut if Barry Church has a good preseason, particularly on special teams.

Sean Lee met Felix about 2 yards up the middle the next rep. ... With Brooking taking the morning off, Jason Williams is working with first team, Lee with second-team. ... Nice hole behind Kyle Kosier, giving Felix Jones 6 yards before contact.

Sunday July 25, 2010 9:51 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
9:52 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Huge hole for Tashard Choice on the left side. Montrae Holland manhandled Sean Lissemore at the point of attack, totally turning the rookie around. ... Another 5-plus for Choice on that side.

Sunday July 25, 2010 9:52 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas)
9:53 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Jason Williams guessed wrong, shooting a gap while Choice went through the next hole over. ... Olshansky and Ware abused the second-team, blowing up a Herb Donaldson run in the backfield.
