Lucky Whitehead OK after early Friday car accident
6:37 PM ET
FRISCO, Texas -- Lucky Whitehead escaped any serious injury when he was involved in a car accident early Friday morning. He said he would be fine for theDallas Cowboys' season opener against the New York Giants.
After attending a dinner with his fellow wide receivers, Whitehead said he was on the Dallas North Tollway when a car sped by him, causing a chain reaction that led him to crash into another car that attempted to swerve out of the way. Whitehead said the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time, and he did not get home until 3 a.m. after waiting for a tow truck.
He posted and then deleted photos of his car on his Snapchat account.
"I'm fortunate to just have this little cut," Whitehead said, reaching for his left elbow. "It was definitely scary."
Asked about it at his news conference before Friday's practice, coach Jason Garrett said he was unaware of the accident. Whitehead said he did not talk to the coach until before practice started and thought Garrett knew.
Whitehead's first call was to his mother, who is in town visiting. He said he has to do a better job communicating with the organization.
"I was in shock," he said. "I didn't know what to do."
Whitehead is expected to be the Cowboys' kickoff and punt returner and play a small role on offense against the Giants.
