Machine-like Dan Bailey is back on the all-time accuracy chase

OXNARD, Calif. -- If he wished to do so, Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey could recall every detail of his five missed field goal attempts from 2016.

The length. The direction in the stadium. The wind. The snap. The hold.

“I mean, you try to forget them and they do kind of get lumped in together as time goes on, but yeah, sure, I mean you definitely remember more misses than you do makes,” said Bailey, who made 27 of 32 tries in 2016.

What are the rules on QBs kicking the ball to WRs? In case Kellen Moore doesn't work out.

Bailey ranked 15th in the league in accuracy last year at 84.4%.

Considering that the majority of his kicks are made within climate controlled stadiums / domes with zero wind or adverse conditions, you'd like to see that percentage higher.

Eh, he regained my trust with his playoff performance last year. We all know he's a great regular season kicker but the playoffs is where you make your money! He was shaky in the 2014 playoffs but was clutch this time vs. the Packers. The high percentages for a kicker scares me (a la Vanderjagt). Some of the best kickers in NFL history were 80-85% for their career.

I'm okay with him missing some regular season kicks.

I may be wrong, but if I remember correctly, wasn't Dan Bailey battling back issues last year??

Yes, he had a tremendous game vs Green Bay last year hitting all 3 of his kicks.

It's a good thing since he a 33% playoff kicker up that point (1 for 3 in the 2014 playoffs). He's raised his career playoff average to 66% on 4 for 6 kicking -- obviously very small sample sixe.

Dude is a kicker, but arguably a Top 5 player on this team!!! Remember when we screwed around years ago and wouldn't pay a kicker???

Well, it's a good thing coaches look at the body of work rather than a cherry-picked season here and there.
