ESPN MacMahon: Emmitt weighs in on short-yardage woes

It may have only been 1 time but I could've sworn Barber wasn't deep in the backfield on some of those carries if not all.

It was at least once. Same against SD, he was lined up close at FB on one of those plays.

I'm kinda surprised Jones says anything about "lining up 7yds deep and taking a handoff" to Emmitt, because Troy hardly ever (if ever) ran a sneak while Emmitt was here. We always handed the ball off in the I formation and the vast majority of time had no issue getting the conversions, especially from 91-95.

The Chargers running game isnt very good in terms of yds per attempt, but if you watch them they almost always convert the short yardage plays and they do have 17 rushing tds (12 by Tomlinson) mostly in short yardage situations. Norv's still running alot of those same plays. The difference between them and us right now is their OL gets the necessary push to convert, wheras our's does not.

Garrett needs to get his head out of his arse, seriously. 5 stuffs on 3rd or 4th and 1 is just ****ing pathetic.

We would be sitting here as division champs right now if we could have got 1 yard in 3 shots vs. San Diego.

Just saying.

They even said Sunday that Tony has a run pass option at the line of scrimmage now. Just run motion, let Tony diagnose it and switch to pass if it looks open. Could be a touchdown if they sell out to stop the run. Especially if we get it to Austin.

those were the last plays of the game?

what is the use in having the best TE in football if you never look at him in goal line situations.

other teams have playaction to their FBs and TEs.........but Garrett keeps running Molasses Barber out there.

Spread the defense and toss it out to Felix... Problem solved..
Or how about throwing one to Anderson out of the backfield, noone would suspect him to slide out into the flat.

After Aikman broke his finger on a QB sneak in his rookie year, they took the sneak out of the playbook until Gailey took over.

I do wonder if Jason never sneaks it because Norv never did. Remember how one of the first (some would say few) things Barry did was put in the QB sneak?

But I noticed that Norv has Rivers sneak it... They even did it against us. And Belichick has had Brady do it for years.

the 4th down play vs SD, he was at the FB position. THe problem was (and is) the Oline not getting the push and being overwhelmed by the defense.

What worked for Dallas vs Washington on goal to go was that the safties were split out wide and london fletcher moved off to his left. They were expecting pass...possibly b/c of the rushing woes

Garrett is saving our short yardage play action for the playoffs! They'll never see it coming.

That is not true. Right now Dallas(10-5) and Philly(11-4) are facing off to win the division. Had Dallas beaten the Chargers the Cowboys(11-4) and Eagles(11-4) would still be playing for the NFC East crown this Sunday. In fact if the Cowboys had beaten both the Giants and Chargers in early December, Dallas(12-3) and Philly(11-4) would still be playing for the NFC East crown this Sunday.
